“Damn straight, that’s what I said. I want you to make yourself at home here. Hell, if I had my way, we’d be planning the move from your parents’ house to here.”

“Oh, Andrew,” she said, and I couldn’t really read the tone. It sounded like a protest. Maybe a warning? “You want me to move in here with you?”

“I would love that. When you’re ready, of course. In the meantime, please make yourself at home. You can leave some things here so you don’t have to worry about packing a bag every night.”

She was quiet then, and I worried I pushed for too much too soon. I could feel her nervous energy sparking all around her body as she fussed with the tie at her hip that held her dress closed.

I captured her busy hands in mine and waited for her to look at me. “I’m sorry if I’m pushing you. I won’t mention it again until you bring it up. But know that is what I want, and it is a standing offer.” The air was heavy between us now, and I was kicking myself for potentially ruining the mood. “Babe…” I began to say just as she spoke at the exact same time.

“I want that too.”

We both laughed. Then again, at the same time, both said, “You go.”

“Ladies first. I insist.” I swept my hand out in front of us as if clearing a path for her.

“I’d like to introduce you to my parents. Would you be okay with that? They’re not old-fashioned, necessarily. I mean, you’ve met my mom, but my father is very protective of his daughters.” Her smile warmed even more as she spoke about the man who raised her.

“I think he has always had certain expectations about how we should be respectful in his home with regard to our dating practices.” Maye chuckled and added, “Although, with my two older sisters, a lot of those expectations were completely trampled on.”

“I would love to meet them. You’ve talked so reverently about them. I’m sure they’re lovely people.”

Surely Maye had explained to them how we’d met, so they shouldn’t be caught off guard by our stark age gap.

“Why don’t we have them over for dinner?” I offered. “We can cook together.”

“You would do that?”

“Oh, baby, I would do anything for you.”

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

ANDREW

Both showered, teeth brushed and ready for bed, we worked together to pull the heavy quilt down to the footboard. Technically, summer was coming to an end, but the warm weather usually lasted well into October in Southern California.

Maye was quiet as we got into bed. The queen-size mattress seemed enormous after spending so many hours together in my hospital bed.

“Come closer, baby. You’re much too far away for my plans.” Even I could hear the low register my voice dipped into the minute we dimmed the lights. My dick was already at full attention knowing the pleasure about to unfold.

“The bed seems so big now, doesn’t it?” she marveled, and I smiled, having just had the same thought.

“We could sleep on the couch?” I offered in a serious tone.

She shot her wide, navy eyes my way, and I couldn’t hold the ruse.

“Joking. I’m joking, baby. But I was just thinking the same thing about what we’re used to sharing.”

I’d already had enough small talk. If I didn’t get my fingers on her flesh, I’d lose my mind. “Lay here. Let me look at you first.”

She shimmied into place on her back and stared up at me with darting eyes.

“Don’t be nervous, okay? If you ever want me to stop, just tell me, okay? But that’s the only way I’ll know you don’t like something. You have to tell me.”

“What are you planning on doing that you’re saying that?” She gulped. My attempt to ease her nerves seemed to ramp them up instead.

“So many things. I’m just deciding where to start,” I warned with a devilish grin, and she sucked in a breath. I moved to hover over her, my arm and shoulder muscles stronger than ever. I was having to overcompensate for the weakness in my legs with upper body strength, so the past month of Mara’s vicious regimen had me very toned.

“But first, these are definitely in the way,” I said and flipped up the bottom hem of her pajama top. After her shower, she dressed in a silky menswear-style pajama set. The palest shade of lavender against her long blond hair reminded me of fairy tales.
