“I’m the happiest I’ve ever been,” Tarryn revealed.

“Me, too. And I promise you, it only gets better,” Sophie added.

This was all so reassuring. If Avalon hadn’t gone out of her way to want to make me feel welcomed, I’d have been beating myself up about everything I was going through. I’d sort of been doing it over the last few days as I took note of a new side to Forrest.

He was still just as wonderful as ever with me, but there was something lingering beneath the surface. He was frustrated. Forrest did his best to hide it from me. While I could appreciate his reason for wanting to shield me from it, I hated it.

My situation was causing him to be stressed, even if he wanted it to seem like he wasn’t bothered.

“Can I ask you all a question?”

“Ask away, Daisy,” Mallory encouraged me.

“When each of you was going through your situation, did you find there was a change in your guy?”

“In what way?” Maxie asked.

I shrugged. “Forrest and I met and got together while we were both on a vacation of sorts, so it was safe to say the normal stresses of life didn’t factor in. Since I’ve been here, though, I’m seeing this new side to him. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still as attentive and wonderful as ever, but there’s this new piece to him that I can see him trying to hide.”

“I’ve known Forrest the longest of anyone here, and I think he’s one of the more laidback guys at the office. I mean, Jax is probably the most relaxed, but Forrest is right up there with him,” Avalon shared.

“So, it’s not wrong for me to assume I’m the one stressing him out?”

Though it was technically a question, my tone indicated it was more of a statement.

“You’re the woman he loves, so it’s only natural for him to be worried about you,” Liv piped up.

“Yeah,” Lamise agreed. “I can’t say for sure how you left things at the end of your trip, but if things are official between you now, that changes everything.”

“And you’ll probably find he’s still just as worried about you after this situation gets resolved,” Sawyer put in.

In an instant, I wanted to find a way to take Forrest and me back to that cabin at the ski resort. If we were there, I didn’t think he’d have anything to worry about. I hated to see him so consumed with apprehension.

“That sounds awful,” I admitted.

“You have to understand what kind of man you’re dealing with, though,” Tarryn explained. “It’s just in their nature to love and protect the people who mean the most to them. And the truth is, we’re no different. I mean, look at how you’re feeling now, worried about him. It’s normal to want to protect the person you love from harm.”

I hadn’t really thought about it like that. The idea that something was bothering Forrest was weighing heavily on my mind, and I knew it was because of the way I felt about him. I guess it was only natural he would feel the same way in return, especially when I’d just been physically attacked and threatened.

“That makes me feel marginally better,” I murmured.

Mallory didn’t hesitate to chime in. “Trust me, the two of you will get through this situation, and he’ll find something else to worry about when it comes to you. I’m dealing with it right now with Nixon.”

Everyone’s eyes shot to her, and it was Avalon who asked, “What’s going on with Nixon?”

Mallory bit the corner of her lip in an attempt to stifle a smile. Unfortunately, with all of the expectant looks being sent her way, she had no choice but to offer an explanation. “I’m pregnant.”

My eyes widened as gasps filled the air in the room. Lily and Hanna were seated on either side of Mallory, and they both immediately offered her hugs and congratulatory words.

“When are you due?” Lamise asked.

“November 7th.”

“What if we have our babies on the same day?” Liv questioned her.

Silence fell over the room as everyone turned their attention to Liv.

“What do you mean?” Sophie asked.
