“What time should I take the anxiety medication?”

“One hour before, and it’s 8:00, so right about now. Jillian will be here at 9:00 to check your vitals.

“Okay, let’s do this,” I say with another deep breath.

We go to the kitchen where Ethan retrieves the two little yellow pills. “It says on the bottle you need to eat something with this, Liv. You need some nutrition for what you’re about to go through.”

“I don’t know if I can eat anything. My stomach is in knots. Can I just have a smoothie or something?”

“Okay, I suppose that works.”

“If I don’t have to chew it, I think I can get it down.”

He stops and leans on the counter with his head down. “I hate that you’re feeling this way because of me. If it weren’t for who I am…for what I am…you wouldn’t be going through this.”

“Ethan, stop.” I put my hand on his. “I want to do this. Let’s just focus on the future. That’s what I need both of us to do right now.”

“Okay. You’re right.”

I drink half of a smoothie before taking both anxiety pills, then finish the other half. “Step one is done.” I feel somewhat of a sense of accomplishment, even though we’ve done absolutely nothing yet. “I’m going upstairs to shower and get ready.”

He grabs my hand as I start to walk away. “Liv, you’re supposed to be resting.”

“Ethan,” I pause to kiss him, “it’s not like I’m up there working out, plus I think we kind of threw that out the window last night. It’s just taking a shower. Do you really think I’m going to allow my mate to turn me looking like this?”

“I think you look beautiful, but if you feel better taking a shower, go ahead.”

“I do, and it will help keep me busy until Jillian gets here. What exactly does one wear to a public werewolf transition?” I ask with a dry laugh.

“You’ll want to dress comfortably. We’ll be taking you to bed as soon as we can.” I can see the stress of today tightening in his shoulders.

I go to him and wrap my arms around him. “We’re going to be okay, Ethan. We’re going to get through these next couple of days, and we’re going to start our lives together.”

He presses a kiss to my forehead as his warm hand rubs my back. “I can’t wait for that.”

I intentionally don’t think about today’s events while I get ready. Instead, I only focus on Ethan and the life we want together. I do my hair the way he likes it, leaving it naturally wavy and putting it in a low ponytail to expose my neck, with several loose pieces around my face. To be comfortable yet presentable, I choose a pair of leggings with a cute shirt that easily slides off my shoulder on one side.

When I come down the stairs, I find Ethan staring out the window into the woods. Walking up behind him, I put my arms around his waist. “I see you showered too.” I take a deep breath in and notice he smells especially good today.

“I did, and I’m moving all your things into our bedroom and bathroom while you’re resting the next couple days.”

“Okay. Thank you,” I say as he turns to face me.

“You look gorgeous, baby.” He takes in every inch of my appearance.

“I didn’t do much. I kept it comfortable, just like you said.”

“You still look incredible.” He pulls me in for a kiss.

“I could say the same.” I let my hands explore, feeling the strength of his chest muscles under my fingers as they glide overhis fitted white t-shirt. “Ethan, for some reason, you smell even more amazing than usual today.”

“Our bodies know what’s about to happen. I have a heightened sensitivity to your scent today as well. You smell fucking delicious.” He crashes his mouth to mine for an intense kiss that very well could send us on our way to complete the task on our own right now. He pulls away, releasing a deep breath. “Jillian will be here shortly. How are you feeling?”

“A little more relaxed. Being here next to you like this is what’s helping to calm me the most.”

“Me too.” He smiles, brushing a wave of hair away from my face, and scanning my eyes with his. The doorbell rings and we lock eyes. “Here we go,” Ethan says as he makes his way to the door to welcome Jillian.

“Hello, you two.” Jillian enters with a smile. “Olivia, how are you feeling? Has the medication helped you relax a little?”
