“Good,” I say with a nod. “Thanks, Nick. Hey, so this Colin guy…attorneys and political family, right?”

Nick nods his head. “Yep, that’s him.”

“What else do you know about him? What’s your experience been with him?”

“My personal opinion is he’s an arrogant asshole. He’s always on his fucking phone, and he always seems to have something more important or prestigious to do. Hell, he couldn’t even be bothered to come out with us to celebrate Liv and Chloe graduating from grad school.”

“What did she study?”

“Elementary education with a specialization in literacy.”

I smile to myself. “It sounds like she has a good heart.”

“She does.”

“And her parents…they’ve passed?”

“Unfortunately, yes. It was a really bad car accident.”

“What were their names?”

“William and Evelyn Newman.”

“Huh. William Newman sounds familiar. Why might I know that name?”

“Her dad was a highly successful corporate attorney. I think his name was probably well known in the business world,” Nick says with a shrug. “Chloe knew them, but I never met them personally.”

“No siblings or family?”

“No siblings, and no family that she’s close with. Olivia has a lot of friends, but she and Chloe really share a close bond. We kind of stepped in when she lost her parents.”

“She’ll have a family now,” I say, wondering how my parents will react when they find out I have a human mate.

“Listen, Colin has never been right for her. He’s a self-absorbed prick. Now is your chance to show her what you’ve got to offer. I’ll do whatever I can to help you out.”

“I fully intend to do that. I sent Lance out to do a little investigative work starting last night. Colin already isn’t quite as squeaky clean as he’d have you believe.”

“What did that fucker do?”

“His drinks at the club were more like multiple lap dances at the strip club. It seems his name buys him the right to be a little more handsy with the girls than is usually allowed. Lance said he spent a really long time in the VIP room.”

“I hate that fucking asshole. Do you have proof?”

“Photo and video.”

“Why the fuck aren’t you telling her this? She deserves to know.”

“I want her to come to me willingly. I don’t want to have to hurt her to make her see what’s right in front of her.” I shake my head at the thought of what I saw on video. “I mean, who goes out and messes around on a girl like Olivia?”

“Colin Burke. He thinks he’s God’s gift to women. I don’t want her to get hurt either, but don’t waste too much time. I’m going to have a hard fucking time keeping this to myself.”

“Just give me a day or so to try to get through to her.”

“Okay. I’ll see you tomorrow,” Nick says with a pat on the back.

“See ya, Nick.”

I check in with the concierge office to get a key for an empty room next door to Olivia and Chloe. I just can’t force myself to go home tonight, not without my mate by my side.
