After the video Bastian had sent his brother this morning showing Ismay coming out of the bungalow with Bo at dawn, no doubt Remy would enjoy being the one to let him go.

Annabelle:No! I don’t want you to make yourself a target. If he’s violent, who knows what he might do?

Bastian:Poor Ismay. He’s fooled her just like he fooled you.

Annabelle:We need to make sure she stays away from him. Should I call her and explain? I sent him to the cottage when she was there alone in the storm, for God’s sake!

Remy:Why don’t you do that? Considering the situation, it might be better coming from you. I’ll talk to her after.

His mother put a thumbs-up on Remy’s response before Bastian wrote:Remy, when you fire Bo, tell him I’ll box up his stuff and ship it to Louisiana. That way, he won’t even have to come back here.

Annabelle:Be careful. He could be dangerous. We don’t want any trouble—we’ve been through enough.

Remy:Don’t worry, Mom. I’ll make sure he leaves us all alone in the future.

Annabelle:It’s hard to believe he’s actually killed a man. My God, what’s this world coming to?

As far as Bastian was concerned, Bo shooting his father wasn’t any big thing. Under those circumstances, he would’ve done the same. As it was, he sometimes dreamed of what it would be like to inherit his parents’ fortune early. Then he’d never have to work another day in his life.

Ismay had been waiting for the other shoe to drop all day. She knew Bastian wouldn’t let what’d happened this morning go. He’d tell Remy and possibly his parents and do what he could to get Bo fired.

She didn’t care if the Windsors were mad at her. She’d gone too far with Bo, knew that she could never go back to Remy. The fact that she was missing Bo, although he’d only been gone a day, and felt a mild sort of relief that she no longer had to deal with Remy, said a lot. She cared about Remy as a human being, and maybe they could somehow remain friends, but she was no longer in love with him. The separation had probably happened slowly over time, but enough distance had crept between them that it was obvious at last.

The question was...how did she feel about Bo? She couldn’t be in love with him. Everything was too new. When she first started seeing Remy, it’d been exciting, too. She’d thought she was in love. But after she moved in with him, the shine had quickly worn off as he began to take her for granted.

She checked her phone, hoping to hear that Bo had arrived safely in Louisiana, but she hadn’t received anything from him. Unable to wait any longer, she sent him a message.

You safe? All good with your uncle?

It took a moment, but she got a response.

He fell and hurt his shoulder. His arm’s in a sling, but my sister is here taking care of him. He’s going to be fine.

Any word from Remy?she asked.

Not yet. He’s not bothering you, is he?

No. Jack and I had a great day looking for shells and sea glass on the beach, napping in the sun, eating, and watching movies.

Good. I’m happy all is well.

He said he’d finish the fence tomorrow, so don’t worry about that. Where are you in Louisiana?

She was still waiting for a response when a call came in. She hoped it was Bo but saw a number she didn’t recognize. She probably wouldn’t have answered it, except she thought he might be calling her from someone else’s phone. “Hello?”

“Ismay?”

The female voice sounded somewhat familiar. “Yes?”

“This is Annabelle Windsor, Remy’s mother.”

Ismay immediately thought of the truck she and Jack were driving and wondered if using it was going to get Bo in even more trouble. “I’m guessing you’ve heard from Bastian...”

“Yes. I’m sorry you felt he was acting erratically—”

“Hewasacting erratically,” she insisted.
