“What’s that now?” Dora was at the table again and pouring coffee for me and Lilja. “She had no problem getting drunk here last night and binging on the bacon sandwiches I made.”

Grabbing a fork, I stabbed at a pancake and pulled it onto my plate. Next, I picked up the bottle of syrup and generously drizzled the golden elixir on my pancake.

I groaned at the first bite of the syrup-soaked pancake. It’d been a long time since I ate something that tasted so, so good.

“Like it?” Lilja asked, adding another pancake to my plate.

“Yeah. It’s so good. You’re a wonderful cook, Dora.”

The elderly woman had an amused grin for me. “It’s just pancakes.”

“I know but my brother rarely allowed me to eat them at home.”

The table fell silent at my confession.

“Your brother didn’t let you eat pancakes?” Lilja asked, staring at me with a strange look on her face. “Why?”

I shrugged. “He liked me eating healthy stuff. Bacon wasn’t allowed at all.” With that, I grabbed a few strips and put them on my plate. “Callum controlled my diet strictly.”

“Not any-fucking-more!” Mikhail growled, banging the table, startling everyone. Standing from his chair, he came over to me and started loading my plate with more pancakes and bacon.

“Stop!” I cried out, grabbing onto his arm. “I can’t eat all that.”

He halted and stared down at me. A storm raged behind those gray eyes.

“Eat,” he said, stalking back to his seat.

He fumed silently while I gobbled the delicious food. The coffee Dora poured me was heavenly too. Or maybe I was just ravenous after all the excitement the days in Volkov Manor brought me.

“We’re going,” Mikhail announced as soon as my plate was clean.

“Where?” I asked.

“You can’t keep walking around here with no pants on,” he growled. “I’m taking you shopping.”

“She’s not wearing any underwear either,” Lilja supplied helpfully.

Mikhail’s eyes widened comically. “That’s it,” he said, coming over to stand beside me. Grabbing my wrist, he pulled me to my feet. “We’re leaving now.”

“What’ll Yakim say?” Lilja shouted after us as Mikhail dragged me out of the kitchen.

“Just keep your mouth shut about it!” he hollered over his shoulder.

The vast underground garage was lined with an impressive collection of motorcycles. Even though my knowledge of them was nil, a glimpse of the powerful engines and cylinders were enough to tell me they were high-caliber machines.

There were rows of cars as well here but my gaze was firmly attracted to the bikes.

Mikhail rummaged inside a tall vat that oddly looked like a suburban garbage bin. Being with him should’ve left me feeling terrified after the way he treated me a few days ago but something felt different now.

Knowing that he was Danny changed everything. While I was still wary about his penchant for vengeance, I couldn’t help my attraction. Just like Yakim and Leon, I wanted to know him better.

Mikhail straightened after a while and came toward me.

“Try this on,” he said, handing me a pair of jeans.
