When did I get here?I wondered, finding myself in my room.

The sheet fell off me as I sat up, exposing the black clothes Lilja loaned me. My head pounded painfully as I tried to recall how I got back from the kitchen last night.

I shouldn’t be drinking so much, I thought with a moan as my head gave a massive throb. My throat felt parched. Looking around, I found a bottle of water and a strip of aspirin pills near my pillow.

My reaction was the same as a child’s who’d discovered her presents on Christmas day. I eagerly reached for the water bottle. Unscrewing the cap, I drank thirstily.

Did Yakim do all this?I wondered, walking to the window. Unlike last night, the grounds were quiet and still now. Wisps of smoke rose from the top of the woods but apart from that, everything looked the same.

Memories of last night flooded my mind. I could’ve almost imagined the attacks, the thunderous roar of gunfire, the corpses lying scattered in the hallways, and the streams of blood staining the floors.

I thought of Yakim and his passion as he took me against the wall by the door. My pussy throbbed at the memory. The thick scars marring his face hadn’t bothered me while I relished his powerful thrusts.

And then, there was Lilja too. She’d quickly become an ally here.

You’re going to be okay, I told myself. Yakim, Leon, and Mikhail would eventually see I didn’t side with Callum, that I always hated him for hurting them.

Climbing off the bed, I headed into the bathroom to wash up. There was no toothbrush, so I made a mental note to ask Lilja to get me one.

My long, dark strands were starting to clump together.Heck, I even need to ask her for a comb, I thought, haphazardly running wet fingers through my tresses.

With no other amenities in the bare bathroom, I was forced to walk out without much improvement to my appearance. Just as I was about to try the door, the knob rotated, making me halt in my steps.

I expected to see Lilja since it was time for breakfast. To my surprise, it was Leon who walked in through the door.

“Are you okay?” I asked, rushing over to him. “I didn’t see you last night.”

Surprise flickered through those beautiful amber eyes. “I wasn’t home.” His gaze roved all over me. “You’re wearing Lilja’s clothes?”

“Yeah.”

Leon was also clad in black. Dark rings circled his eyes. It looked like he’d spent a sleepless night despite not being home during the attack.

“You used to be Rafael,” I said in a soft voice.

A ragged chuckle escaped him. “So, you finally recognize us.”

I gave a grim nod. “I’m sorry about everything Callum did to you. Please, believe me. I had no idea where he took you or what he did. It’s too late to say this, but I’m sorry.”

Hooking a finger under my chin, he tilted my face up. His amber eyes stared deeply into mine, searching.

I looked back without blinking.

“I’ve been gone for only a day and you’ve changed so much. You don’t seem afraid of me at all.”

“You have no idea how happy I am to finally meet you,” I said, tears pricking my eyes. “You guys were my best friends. You misunderstood me all these years and stayed far from me but things are different from the way you imagined. I hate Callum too.”

“Do you think it’s going to be as simple as apologizing to us, Princess?”

I shook my head. “No, but you can trust me. I’ll never be on Callum’s side.”

His eyes narrowed. “Let’s test that theory, shall we?” Before I could say a word, he released me and stepped back. “Let’s go,” he said, offering me his hand.

Suspicion crept over me. “Are you taking me to eat breakfast?”

He chuckled. “Is that what you want?”

“No,” I muttered. “I’ll be sick if I eat anything.”
