Soft, maniacal laughter sounded from somewhere close by. “You’re such a naughty kitty,” Leon’s voice floated toward me. “There’s no escaping us, darling.”

“Shit,” I muttered, turning around to go the way I’d just come from.

“Oww!” I moaned, feeling a painful stab in the sole of my foot.

Sinking to the ground, I brought up the hurt foot and found a large splinter poking out from my heel. A tiny trickle of blood flowed from the wound, mixing with dirt caking my skin.

I pulled the splinter out and bit my lip to drown a pained groan.

A little more blood flowed out and the wound hurt worse. “Shit!” I muttered as my eyes watered from the pain. Hurt and lost, I felt the bite of crushing defeat.

Lazy footsteps approached me. Looking up, I saw Leon drawing closer to me.

He knelt before me, giving me the first opportunity to gaze at his face.

Surprise flickered through me. He was beautiful despite the flaws marring his face. A long, thin scar ran across his forehead, cutting a path to his left cheek. Thankfully, his gorgeous amber eye remained unscathed.

There was a tiny skull tattoo underneath his right eye while a snarling wolf’s face was engraved over the expanse of his neck. His fiery strands fell into his eyes, giving him a dark, sinful look.

I drew in a shuddering breath. Leon’s face was hauntingly familiar.

“Recognize me?” he asked, bringing his face so close I could feel his warm breath fanning my lashes.

He was familiar but the only thing I recognized about him was his unique amber eyes. He reminded me of Rafael.

I killed them, Callum’s callous voice rang in my mind.

Seven years passed since I last saw Rafael and his brothers. There was no way it was him. It had to be my terror-stricken mind trying to find something safe to cling to.

“I don’t know,” I answered honestly while he flicked and rotated a butterfly knife at a blinding speed in his right hand.

“I’m sure we can help you remember.” He set the blade at the base of my throat.

I wanted to scream but was afraid to even swallow. A single wrong move could cut me.

He pressed the blade deeper and I scooted away, my back hitting the branches and twigs from the hedge.

“Please,” I whispered, feeling the twigs digging into my back painfully.

Leon’s amber eyes gleamed like liquid gold as he soaked in my terror. “I’d have cut you already if I wanted to,” he said in a low, throaty growl that reverberated through me. He moved the blade from my throat but only to have it glide over my collar bones and then down my bare arm.

There was truth to his words. He was extremely deft with the knife. I felt the sharpness of the blade but not once did it cut into my skin.

It was the lurking danger that caused me to stop breathing and stare at him like I was a paralyzed prey in the clutches of a venomous cobra.

A powerful throb went through me, jerking me out of a trance. My pussy pulsed with need, reminding me of the hunger that nearly decimated it.

He brought the knife to rest the tip on my left knee. With extreme deftness, he skimmed it down my leg and stopped at my ankle.

I sat still while he grabbed my hurt foot and brought it closer to his face.

“You hurt yourself,” he said, his eyebrows knitting together.

“Fuck you,” I spat, desperately wanting to kick him away but helpless to even move.

Soft chuckles escaped him. “I know that’s what you want.”

He pushed the knife under my dress. Skimming the tip over my thighs, he lay the blade against my pussy. The feel of cold steel on my heated skin sent a shiver of pleasure through me.
