I was forced to stay still or risk rubbing my stomach against his growing bulge. He was getting aroused by this. The very thought sent a chill through me.

“I have finalized the deal with Freddy,” he barked in my face.

“D-deal?” I choked. Freddy knew about our shameful secret too.

“He’s ready to let me fill you with child and claim them as his own heirs,” Callum said through clenched teeth. “Don’t you dare do anything to jeopardize our arrangement.”

Tears ran down my cheeks as I saw no other way but death. There was no way I could let Callum do those things to me. Death was the only way out of my miserable life.

“I’ll kill him, you know,” said Callum.

“What?” I looked up at him.

“Dad. He’ll pay the price if you do anything to fuck up this arrangement.” He gently tucked the stray strands of my raven-black hair behind my ear. “I’ve kept him alive only for you or he’d be rotting away in a garbage dump just like those three street rats he picked up for you to play with.”

My eyes widened.

For the first time in years, Callum mentioned John, Rafael, and Danny, reminding me of the sole reason they’d disappeared. It was him. It was my own brother who killed them.

Hurt and rage swirled inside me, creating a storm that threatened to drown me, but all I could do was stand there and stare into a monster’s eyes.

How could we share the same blood as Mom and Dad? They were the gentlest, kindest souls. How could they give birth to a monster like him?

“Don’t cry, sweetheart,” Callum’s voice was deceptively gentle. “You have no idea what you do to me when you cry. I want to make you happy, darling, but you make it so difficult. Trust me, hmm? Everything I’m doing is for us.”

“I don’t want this,” I said in a broken voice as tears spilled from my eyes uncontrollably. “Please, just let me go. I’ll take Dad with me and you’ll never have to see him again.”

Callum closed his eyes as if my words greatly disappointed him.

“Please, Callum. This is wrong. This is all so fucking wrong!” I shouted the last sentence. “We’re related! You’re my brother. You shouldn’t be wanting to do this to me.”

“That is exactly why we should be together!” he shouted. “No one’s ever going to be as loyal to you as me. No one’s ever going to love you as much as me. I’ve watched over you since you were a baby. You have no idea how much I want to protect you from the ugliness of this world. Youneedme, Lucia.”

“Please, Callum. I don’t want this. It’s unnatural. It’s disgusting. You’re my brother,” I pleaded.

“You’re too foolish for your own good,” he said, brushing his thumb over my cheek. He brought the thumb to his lips and darted his tongue across the tip, tasting my tears. “Even your tears taste sweet.”

He took a deep breath and fixed me with a cold look. “Go along with my plan or be prepared to lose Dad.”

All the fight inside me died in the face of that threat. I could never bring myself to be responsible for my father’s death. I wasn’t my brother!

My head bowed down in defeat.

Callum kissed the top of my head and walked away.

Tears continued to flow down my cheeks and splash onto the floor. I didn’t even have the freedom to kill myself. Callum wouldn’t spare Dad if I was gone.

I didn’t pray.

The past seven years showed me prayers didn’t work against a devil like my brother. Only another monster could fight against Callum and free me from his clutches.

Wiping my tears, I plastered a smile on my face and walked back into my dad’s bedroom.

“Luc—”

“It’s okay, Dad,” I said, putting on a fake smile. “Don’t worry about Callum. We’ll work it out ourselves.”

Dad shook his head as utter gibberish flowed from his lips. I knew he felt as stuck as me, or maybe worse. He was a prisoner in his own body.
