Her words took me aback so intensely, I couldn’t form the right response. Deciding to leave, I started climbing off the bed.

Lucia was on me in an instant. She grabbed onto my arm and pulled me back on the bed.

“Don’t leave,” she said in a tone that was a mix of hurt and apprehension.

“I’m tired,” I said.

“You can sleep here,” she said, scooting away. “This bed is too big for me anyway.” Placing a pillow beside hers, she patted it in shape.

I lay next to her, wondering if this wasalla dream, that I’d jerk awake anytime.

She pulled the covers over us and slid in beside me. Her soft, naked body pressed into my side as she flung an arm over my chest.

What the hell was she doing treating me like a fucking teddy bear?

By the time, I turned around to face her, she’d closed her eyes and was snoozing softly.

Reaching out, I moved away a few strands of hair from her face and watched her. A fierce need to protect her rose inside me.

There was no way I could ignore the emotions swirling inside me. It didn’t matter who I had to kill next to keep her at my side. She wasmine.

Being under the blanket with Yakim was like sleeping inside an oven. I got so warm, my eyes blearily blinked open the moment I rolled away too far, my leg stretching beyond the sheet. The cold draft playing on my bare skin was enough to wake me up.

Muttering sleepily, I was about to scoot closer to Yakim when a strange feeling crept down my spine. My gaze scanned the room, wondering what attracted my attention.

“Oh my—” I cried out, jumping to sit up the moment my gaze fell on a dark silhouette of a man seated on a nearby couch.

Yakim stirred. “What’s wrong?” he asked in a rough voice.

“There’s...there’s someone watching us,” I blurted, pointing toward the man in the shadows who didn’t move an inch. For a moment, I wondered whether my sleepy mind was imagining things.

Yakim flipped on several switches, bathing the room in bright light.

A gasp escaped me the moment I stared at the man before me. He was completely drenched from head to foot in...blood.

“Why are you creeping on us?” Yakim growled.

“I was bored,” said Leon with a shrug.

I stared between them. Neither acknowledged Leon’s gruesome appearance.

“Are you hurt?” I asked, trying to understand why Yakim wasn’t reacting to his brother who was soaked in blood.

“Relax,” Yakim said in a deep, cool tone. “It’s not his blood.”

“Then, whose...?” My question died on my lips. The memory of those three men in the dungeons, hanging from chains and bleeding out, rose in my mind. Looking toward Leon, I asked, “Are they dead?”

“Yeah,” he said casually. “Their slow deaths better get the message to the bastards planning to turn against us in the future.”

“You should be taking a shower,” said Yakim, running fingers through his dark hair. “That couch’s probably ruined.”

The white leather couch already had smears of crimson all over it.

“I didn’t know it was white,” Leon muttered. “It was kinda dark in here.”
