A single lamp lit the street corner, illuminating the cracked sidewalks and graffitied walls. The neighborhood seemed asleep even though it was barely seven in the evening.
These streets were whispered to be one of the shadiest parts of Ashville. Gang violence was common. Drugs and cheap whores were the only attraction here. Even the cops stayed away in a bid to preserve their pitiful lives.
So, what were Trevor Harding and his two best friends doing in a place such as this? From their luxurious tuxes, I could tell they were ready to head to prom.
“Let’s take a hit now,” said Trevor. He was the sixteen-year-old bastard who’d dared to askourLucia to a date on prom night.
The shitheads accompanying him halted in their steps at once. Their beady eyes gleamed as Trevor poured a small amount of sugary dust on his forearm and shaped it into a thin line.
“Get out of the way, Denver!” Trevor snapped, pushing the guy with spiky green hair as he closed in for a sniff. “I get to do it first.”
“C’mon, Trev,” Denver groaned.
Trevor fixed him with a scowl that shut him up immediately.
I glanced at the two shadows tailing me. They’d perfectly melded into the night in their black jeans and hoodies.
I gave a small nod, silently commanding them to stay alert but not to make a move yet.
“Fuck!” Trevor moaned, throwing his head backward. A burst of wild laughter escaped his lips as he looked toward his friends. “This shit feelssogood.”
“Do you think it’ll be as good as fucking Lucia Baldwin?” Denver asked.
“I hear she’s a virgin,” said Cooper, the third guy with auburn curls. “How tight do you think she’ll be?”
Pure venom flowed through my veins as I heard them talking shit aboutmyangel. My fingers itched to snuff the life out of Trevor and the two guys who thought nothing about Lucia other than being a fuck-worthy trophy.
“She’s as easy as a dumb fuck,” Trevor bragged loudly. “Should’ve seen the way she blushed when I asked her out. I think she’s been thirsting after my cock for a long time now.”
“Give her a good dicking,” said Cooper, his eyes lighting up maliciously. “Film her like you did with Katie Goldberg. Even if we can’t have a piece of her ass, we could at least jerk off to it.”
My eyes squeezed shut in an effort to calm the storm raging inside my heart. Howdarethey conspire against the girl I loved?
The most beautiful thing about Lucia was her untouched innocence. She was the kindest and loveliest girl in the world and the type to pick up abandoned, stray puppies on the road and bring them home.

Two long shadows stretched on the broken asphalt road but the three kids snorting coke were completely oblivious to their presence.
My brothers stood beside me now. The sound of their quick, shallow breaths told me they were fuming and itching to get their hands on the three bastards about to prey on our innocent angel.
I raised my chin toward Trevor, permitting them to do whatever they pleased.
Mikhail moved forward at once, gaining on the group and attacking the tallest guy without a moment’s thought.
Always so impatient, I thought as Cooper turned around to face his attacker.He should’ve gone with a strike that could incapacitate his enemy in one blow.
Shouts and grunts shattered the silence of the night as the three boys reared up to fight against Mikhail who was leaner than them all. They probably thought he was an easy target.
Mikhail blocked their attacks but he was having a hard time returning their hits.
“It’ll take him all night to finish them off,” Leon whispered in my ear.
