“Didn’t know what we were missing until you dragged us in here,” said Caleb with a bright grin.

“Didn’t your mom ever bring you with her?”

Corey looked at his brother and suddenly, they were laughing.

“Our mom was great at a lot of things but it wasn’t at cooking or shopping,” said Corey, still chuckling. “She even had other people picking out our clothes.”

A sudden realization dawned on me.

The Amhurst brothers had everything but they missed out on precious life experiences. Victoria wasn’t the perfect Mom after all.

Taking a deep breath, I moved forward and squeezed myself between them.

“You two aren’t going anywhere,” I commanded. “Corey put back those jars.”

“But—”

“Now.” I put on my stern face that had my employees shaking in their shoes.

“We’re definitely coming back another time,” Corey muttered under his breath as he gave me a ridiculously annoyed look.

Caleb wouldn’t even look at me.

I chuckled to myself. Who knew the supermarket aisles would enthrall the Amhurst twins this much?

Caleb stretched out on the luxurious sofa in Milla’s apartment.

“Your feet stink,” I said as he placed his feet on my lap. “Get them off, Cal.”

He grinned lazily and closed his eyes, leaving his feet resting on my thighs.

I made a face and looked away from my annoying brother.

Milla’s apartment was planned in an open space and decorated in a trendy style with red leather and dark wood furniture. Her choice of residence was a polar opposite to the tiny flat she lived in during her college days.

There was something familiar about it though.

The grand penthouse apartment exuded the same kind of homely vibes as her old flat. There was a warm touch to the place even though the interiors were clearly designed by a professional decorator.

I gazed over at Milla who was chopping salad at the kitchen counter.

A frown appeared on her pretty face every time she looked at the four large shopping bags we’d put on a stool nearby. It felt like the bags had committed a personal offence against her and she couldn’t wait to get rid of them.

A soft snore brought my attention back to my brother.

Caleb was already asleep.

On the other side, Milla was frantically looking through the shopping bags.

“I can’t find the wine,” she muttered.

I cringed internally. Caleb and I never went to look at the wine section. We’d been too busy grabbing the sweets, puddings and colorful beverages on sale.

Her gaze met mine.
