I joined in. “I’m almost twenty-eight. Not too young anymore.”

“What are you talking about?” said Jerry who was closest to me. “Apart from these young fellas here,” he gestured toward Corey, Caleb, and Noah. “You’re the youngest one here.”

“Are you dating anyone?” asked the same man who’d first asked me about my age.

“Nothing serious,” I said, taking a sip of my drink.

“Excellent!” Jerry cried out. Stepping forward, he wrapped an arm around me. “I think you’ll be perfect for my nephew.”

I chuckled awkwardly.

“Leave her alone,” muttered the few ladies present around us.

“You know what?” Caleb spoke up over the chuckles and jeers. “Dad’s been looking for her.” Shouldering and elbowing through the group of elderly men and women, they came to stand beside me.

“Come here, Jer bear,” said Corey, plucking the old geezer off me easily.

“And you’re coming with me,” Caleb whispered, grabbing onto my arm. “We’ll see everyone in a while,” he said in a louder voice.

He steered me away from the group, giving me the space to breathe.

I didn’t like how easily the conversation turned toward personal matters. It was good of Corey and Caleb to get me out of there before they could ask me about my family.

Just as I was starting to feel relieved, I yelped out.

“Ssh!” Caleb whispered as he leaned against me. “Let him watch.”

Heat rose to my neck as I felt Caleb’s large hand cup over my left buttcheek. I glanced backward, spotting Noah only a few feet behind us.

“Keep walking,” Caleb whispered. “I’ll get you out of here.” He squeezed my ass harder.

I glared up at him while he grinned mischievously.

Torn between amusement and annoyance, I was led out of the banquet hall with Noah covering us from behind.

As soon as we stepped outside, Noah caught up with us. With a sudden move, he wrenched Caleb away from me.

“Hey!” Caleb barked as he stumbled.

“Stop fooling around,” Noah hissed, looking angry. Turning his blazing silvery eyes on me, he added, “I thoughtyouhad more sense.”

I looked up at Caleb and smothered a chuckle. His mischievous and arrogant grin was the perfect weapon against Noah who was fuming like a raging bull.

“Not my fault if she likes me more than you, No,” said Caleb with the same infuriating grin. Pulling me against him, he gave me a wet kiss on the cheek.

An uncertain look came over Noah.

“Is that true?” he asked, looking at me. “You’ve forgiven him?”

I hadn’t forgiven any of them but I didn’t want to lose the opportunity to torment Noah.

“I don’t mind being around him,” I said with a shrug.

“That’s right,” said Caleb, turning me away from Noah. “Let’s get out of here, babe. We’ve got so much catching up to do.”

I followed Caleb’s lead, following him down the hallway.

“Could you ask them to leave too?” Caleb whispered in my ear as we waited for an elevator.
