I felt the same as him. Rage burned in my chest. I wanted to kill Luke for daring to kidnap my brother and Milla. If they weren’t trapped inside that manor, I’d have set it on fire already.

A glance on my phone’s screen showed it was getting close to four A.M.

We only had a few hours before Dad and the rest of the household would wake up.What would they think when they see us all missing?I wondered.

My thoughts went to Irene.

Our little princess stole my heart since the day she entered our lives. She had a way of bringing out our inner child. My brothers and I hadn’t laughed so freely in years. Her innocence touched a chord deep inside us, allowing us to open ourselves to her.

We wanted to protect the sweet child from the moment we met. That was the main reason we readily supported Milla’s decision to adopt her.

Irene would be devastated if we went home without Milla.

She loved Milla the most. Even though we prepared a room for her, she preferred sleeping with Milla on most nights. On the days Milla returned home late, Irene would wait for her until she fell asleep on the couch.

A painful spasm went through my chest.

We have to get Milla back, I thought desperately. There’s no other way.

“Hey,” Caleb’s voice sounded close to me. “I think that’s him.”

Three black SUVs came to a halt by the road.

A man climbed out from the back of the second car. Under the glow of a streetlamp, we recognized the familiar figure in a long black coat.

Caleb hurried forward.

I followed him, wanting to make sure it was Nick Civella.

“Thank fuck you’re here,” Caleb muttered.

The mafia boss gave a grim nod and laid a hand on my brother’s shoulder. “It’s okay,” he said in a deep voice. “We’ll get Azalea out of there.”

“What about the people guarding the manor?” I asked.

“It won’t be a problem now,” said Civella. “The footage allowed me to recognize the group that helped the Becketts. They’re from the Bonnano family. Their leader owes me a favor, so it wasn’t too hard to negotiate with him.”

“What did you negotiate?” Caleb asked, the desperation quite clear in his voice.

“You don’t have to worry about that. They’ve already broken their contract with the Becketts,” said Civella. “We can walk into that house right now and no one will touch us.”

Relief spread through me at once. I’d made the right decision by calling him for help.

“Come,” said Civella, walking ahead. “Let’s get them back.”

Caleb and I moved forward to join him, flanking his either side.

Nick’s men joined us too, walking a few feet behind us. Our rising numbers gave me strength. Caleb and I weren’t alone anymore.

The men guarding the gates seemed to recognize Nick. Without a word, they opened the gates, allowing us to walk inside without any resistance.

“This way,” said Caleb, leading us through the vast front lawn to reach the manor’s door.

The well-lit grounds allowed us to navigate our way along the path leading to the house. Guards in black combat gear patrolled the area but no one stopped us. It looked like they’d all been told to allow Nick and his men to enter the premises.

“You’ve been here before?” Nick asked.

“Yeah,” said Caleb. “Our companies have been competing for decades now. They’ve invited us a few times out of courtesy over the years during some of their parties. That’s how we know our way around the property.”
