There was no one in the entrance hall, allowing us to enter the inner hallways without any inquisitive questions. We both quickly took a staircase leading up to our rooms without any interference.

Reaching my room, Caleb gently lowered Irene onto a couch.

Irene was wide awake now, soaking up everything around her with curious eyes.

“Now what?” Caleb asked. “Do we call Civella?”

I shook my head. “Let’s patch her up first.” My gaze took in Irene’s torn and dirty dress. “I need you to go out and buy some clothes for her.”

“What? I can’t do that.”

“Why not?”

“She’s a little lady. How the hell am I supposed to know what to buy?”

“What are you two arguing about?” said a different voice.

Caleb and I turned toward the door. Noah stood on the threshold, his silvery eyes taking in the scene in my bedroom.

“Whose kid is that?”

“Caleb will explain everything on the way to the store,” I said.

“What?” A confused look came over Noah’s handsome face as he glanced at his brother for help.

“Milla wants us to go shopping for the kid,” said Caleb. “How the hell do you choose clothes for a girl?”

“I like princess gowns,” Irene spoke up helpfully.

A snort escaped me. “There. Buy her some princess gowns.” Turning toward Irene, I asked in a serious tone, “What are your favorite colors, sweetie?”

“I love red and pink,” she said with a sudden grin. “All my clothes are red and pink. My bed has red sheets with pink unicorns. It’s the most boo-tee-fool bed.”

Biting my lower lip to stop another chuckle, I looked up at the two tall men before me. They both sported comically scared-looking faces.

“What’s your favorite stuff to eat?” I asked.

“I love chocolate ice cream and spaghetti with hot dogs.”

I looked over at Caleb and Noah. “You heard her. She wants red and pink princess gowns. On your way out, check in the kitchens to see if we’ve got chocolate ice cream and hot dogs. If we don’t, buy them too.”

“Can’t we ask a maid to get them for us?” Caleb said in a whiny voice.

“I don’t want anyone gossiping about her yet,” I said in a grim tone. “She’s our guest and there’s no one I trust more than you guys.”

“But where do we even go to look for dresses?” Caleb asked.

“Try the mall,” I said. “But don’t take too long. I’ll bathe her soon and she’ll need something to wear then. You should get her a bathrobe and some underwear too.”

“But who is she?” Noah asked.

“I’m Irene Marigold Civella,” Irene spoke up. She strode toward Noah and held her hand out. “I’m Azalea’s friend.”

She looked incredibly tiny before the two tall men.

I watched as Noah extended his arm and gently engulfed her small hand between his large fingers.

“She’s polite,” said Noah, a sudden smile lighting up his beautiful face.
