She was celebrated for providing jobs and paving a new era for the electronic and IT industries.

Azalea Amhurst reminded me of another girl who was just as smart and resourceful as her. If Milla was given a chance, she’d have done great things too.

An ache went through me as I thought of her. She used to be so dedicated to her studies and always made a big deal about her grades.

She was ambitious but never lost her sweetness. I’d never met anyone as warm and kind as her in my life. She was beautiful, inside and out, although most days, she hid her beauty under baggy hoodies with ridiculous, nerdy quotes.

My eyes pricked with tears and I had to blink several times to make sure Caleb didn’t notice a change in my mood. He loved Milla too and still felt guilty about not being able to protect her.

I looked toward Noah who was locked in a heated debate with Caleb. It’d been five years but I never forgave him for driving Milla away. He said he was sorry but deep inside, I didn’t believe him.

Standing up, I stalked out of the room and headed toward the staircase that led to our rooms upstairs. It was late and I was drained, both physically and mentally.

Azalea Amhurst was a stranger but I was determined to judge her based on her merits, not on a warped image created by Noah.

Caleb and I weren’t fools. We wanted the best for Amhurst Co. too but neither of us wanted to commit another sin out of sheer ignorance.

Noah only cared about preserving what our parents built while I’d give everything I had to see Milla again. Money, prestige, and reputation meant little when you didn’t have someone to share them with.

I didn’t think I could love another woman as much as I loved Milla. If fate gave me another chance, I’d gladly trade everything I had to be with her.

The boardroom steadily filled up with people. Seated near the head of the table, I kept a steady gaze on the open door.

“It’s not time yet,” Dad said in a low voice so only I could hear him. “You’ll strain your neck if you keep staring at the doorway like that.”

“Mind your own business,” I muttered, wondering why he still cared about me at all. He should’ve hated me after the incident five years ago but he carried on like before, staying aloof but still making sure me and my brothers were okay.

My gaze swung back to the door.

Two familiar figures walked among the black-clad old geezers. Dressed in identical navy suits, my brothers easily stood apart from the crowd.

Caleb nodded toward me while Corey flipped me a bird. They walked along the long rectangular table and came to stand beside me.

“You okay?” Caleb asked, sitting down in a chair beside mine while Corey moved further away, taking his place on the other side of the table.

“Why shouldn’t I be?” I muttered. “We shouldn’t worry about an outsider. This company belongs to us and in the end, everyone will choose stability over promises of higher profit margins.”

Caleb gave a nod but looked far from being convinced.

The long table was almost full by now but there was no sign of the newcomer.

“She’s late,” I said through clenched teeth.

Dad looked down at his watch. “She still has a minute left.”

Azalea Amhurst seemed intent on making an entrance. She was supposed to be young but other than that, I had no idea what she looked like. A person without a social media presence in this day and age seemed highly suspicious.

I was on edge, waiting to see the woman who was daring to step on my toes.

The chatter in the room died just as I glanced down at my watch.

Looking up, I followed everyone’s gaze toward the doorway. A tall, lean woman in a bright pink suit stood at the threshold.

I sat up straighter, eager to take a closer look at my adversary.
