“I’ll think about it,” he said, looking suddenly serious. “Now, leave. Don’t test my patience anymore. I’m a little too tempted to keep you here.”

“Come on,” said Noah, steering me away from Civella.

“But—”

“Walk,” he growled, holding my hand in a firm grip.

Several black-suited men gathered behind us as we walked through the shadowy underground corridor to reach the elevator. One glance was enough to see their threatening glares on us.

I grabbed onto Noah’s arm instinctively.

Civella’s threat loomed in my head. There’s no way I could let the man lock me up in the basement of this grand hotel for his amusement.

To my horror, about a dozen men crowded us as we stepped inside the elevator.

Heart pounding, I clung to Noah.

For a moment, I wondered what would happen if Civella suddenly changed his mind. Even if Noah didn’t leave my side, what could he do against these men? They might even be armed.

Suddenly, I regretted bringing him along.

When the elevator doors slid open, the black-suited men filed out one by one, leaving us to be the last ones to walk out. A little courage bubbled inside me as the brightly-lit lobby corridors came in view.

We’ve got to get away from here, my mind urged. We could relax only after we’d put a hundred miles between Civella and us.

Noah caught hold of a valet, demanding he got our car to the hotel’s entrance asap. All the while, the twelve men watched us.

Noah’s face was devoid of all emotion. If Civella was watching us on a screen, he’d get nothing from him.

It was a relief to see my car stop before the hotel’s entrance gates. A valet climbed out and handed me the keys.

Grabbing them, I hurried inside my car and positioned myself behind the wheel. As soon as Noah locked his door, I stepped on the gas, shooting away from the hotel.

“It’s okay,” Noah said in a deep voice. “You can relax now. Civella was just messing with you.”

I didn’t allow myself to relax until I’d made sure we weren’t followed on the streets.

“I didn’t like the way he sent those men after us,” I finally spoke out.

“He was trying to scare you,” said Noah. “If he wanted to take you or hurt you, he could’ve done so easily. A single bullet to the head would’ve finished me off in a minute.”

“Noah!”

He shrugged, loosening the top few buttons on his shirt. “He seemed to like you though,” he said in a grim tone. “There might be a chance he’d listen to you.”

“I doubt he’d do that for the money alone,” I said. “Silverlake City is great for his business. He’d need more than our dollars to give up on his turf here.”

“He’d want you,” Noah said, wrapping his fingers over my hand that lay on my side. Squeezing it hard, he bit out, “I’d rather lose the project than give you up to him.”

It’d been years since I heard that venomous possessiveness in his voice. Back then, it filled me with terror. Now, it sent my core throbbing with a mad desire.

Pressing my thighs together, I tried to focus on the road ahead as my pussy pulsed and tingled. There it was...the fucked up, messed up part of me that got aroused by Noah’s inner monster.

Having him sitting so close to me wasn’t helping either. I could acutely feel the heat radiating off of him and soaking through my clothes.

It was going to be one long ride back to Silverlake City.
