“That won’t help us,” I said. “We need to speak to them and ask them what the problem is. They’re clearly not running a business in that district. Why would they want to hold up our construction without reason? Talking to them might bring us a solution.”

“So, you want us to go over there and ask to see the mafia boss?” Corey asked with a sudden grin.

“Well...yeah.”

“You can’t be serious,” Caleb said in a grim tone. “Getting involved with them will bring us bigger trouble.”

“Bigger trouble than losing everything?” I questioned.

“We need to build a team to negotiate with them,” said Mrs. Keating, sounding nervous. “We’ll need young, strong men who can shoot and—”

Chuckles escaped me.

Everyone stared at me as I struggled to keep a straight face.

“We’re not going on a war,” I said, clearing my throat. “We don’t need a task force to go talk to them. I’ll go and speak to their boss myself.”

“You can’t be serious,” said Caleb at once.

I held up my hand. Digging into the pocket of my jacket, I grabbed my phone.

“Mal?” I asked as soon as my assistant picked up my call. “Find out everything you can about the boss of the Civella family and send all the info to me. Also, contact his people and arrange a meeting with him at the earliest possible date.”

Stunned faces stared at me.

“You’re one determined woman,” said Corey, looking at me with an amused expression.

“No one messes withmycompany,” I said, keeping my voice loud and clear. Looking between Caleb and Corey, I asked, “How long would it take for logistics to start work once we’ve acquired the land?”

Their faces turned serious at once.

“All construction equipment can be delivered within a week’s time,” said Caleb.

“What about manpower?” I asked.

“Within a week as well,” answered Corey.

“Do better,” I instructed. “Be ready to deploy sooner. We can’t afford to lose any time after wasting six months.”

They stayed quiet but their serious gazes told me they were figuring out a way to carry out my instruction.

The whole table got to their feet when I stood up. Everyone looked at me with somber faces.

Internally, I patted my back. My resolution to fix the issue despite the risks seemed to have gained the management’s respect.

Even if I can’t make this project work, at least, I’m keeping up morale, I thought to myself with a hint of amusement.

The sound of talking reached my ears as I walked into the family dining room. Milla was already seated close to Dad and was handing out breakfast rolls to Corey and Caleb.

A warm smile lit up her pretty face.

Checking her out for a moment longer, I saw she was dressed in a crimson A-line dress paired with a white jacket. The length of her luscious blond hair was twisted into a bun this morning and her makeup was neat and fresh.

Milla looked ready to head out to work any moment.
