When we got to the top of the hill, a gorgeous, Victorian-style mansion with a five-car garage and immaculate rose bushes was situated to our left. Across from that was the most stunning view of Los Angeles I’d ever seen.

He climbed out of the car first and gestured for me to follow. My stomach sank as I did the same, closing the door behind me. In his hand, he jingled a key as he stepped towards the front door of the mansion. He twisted the key in the door and ushered me inside, holding the door open for me.

The inside of the mansion was even more spectacular, with floor to ceiling pillars and marble countertops. The living room windows were made of stained glass that looked as if they came straight from the Sistine Chapel.

“This, my love,” he said, “is our new home.”

I was speechless as I ran from room to room, gasping at the immaculate decor and wondering how on earth we’d gotten so lucky. I grew up with money but never in my life had I seen a house so stunning, especially not in Indiana. “I can’t believe this.”

“As it turns out, the former owner of this house is a huge fan of the California Lions. He’d been thinking about selling for years but wasn’t entirely sure. So, I made him an offer and he took it. Are you happy?”

I wrapped my arms around him and gave him the longest, deepest kiss possible.

“No,” I whispered. “I’m ecstatic.”

Blade wrapped my legs around his waist and carried me up the marble staircase, all the way up to the master bedroom. After lying me down on the bed, which was twice as big as the one in our apartment, he proceeded to undress both of us. Seeing Blade naked after being away overseas was the perfect homecoming.

And right before he climbed on top of me, I glanced to my left and was greeted with yet another surprise.

Staring back at us from the nightstand, kept safe in a pink picture frame, was the ultrasound of our very first baby due in a few months.
