I shook my head, though. “Right track, wrong conclusion. Those plates are--”

“Fake,” Dominik said as he leaned back in his chair.

“Send me that video, would you?” I asked as I straightened my back.

Dominik started typing around on his keyboard. “Email?”

“[emailprotected]. You can just send it there.”

He peeked up at me. “You don’t have a more secure email than that?”

I furrowed my brow. “What do I look like? The government?”

Em cackled with laughter. “Wow. You two are made for one another.”

“What?” Dominik and I asked in unison.

Jackson nodded his head. “The two of you are uncanny, you know that?”

I stared at him blankly. “Anyway, got it sent?”

Dominik stared at him as well as he jammed his finger into the “enter” button. “Sent.”

“Thanks.”

I tried not to be upset with the fact that Dominik hadn’t clued me in to any of this bullshit that he had come across. After all, the only thing I did was tell him to stay the hell away from my sister and her business. I didn’t understand that it would result on all the shit we had conjured up. I had been so eager to negotiate the terms of his sexcapades that I hadn’t even stopped to negotiate what he could and couldn’t do regarding his information-seeking ways.

Turn after turn, all he did was take advantage.

Yet, I was still thankful to have him at my side during the fiasco.

“Dad?” I asked.

He spoke quickly. “Yes, princess? What is it?”

The desperation in his voice broke my heart. “I’m not sure I’m buying the whole ‘Thaddius keeping tabs on you’ bit. It seems a bit too…”

“Typical?” Dominik asked.

I chewed on my lower lip. “Is there anything else that’s happened that you can think of? Anything that would get you on his radar?”

Mom shook her head. “We fled to L.A. to get rid of that man. Why would your father do something to get back into his bad graces?”

I kept my gaze locked with Dad’s, though. “Are you gambling at all?”

He scoffed. “What kind of man do you think I am?”

I shrugged. “I’m still working that out. Are you gambling?”

“Eden!” Mom exclaimed. “Despite this situation, this man is still your father. He’s still the man that sacrificed his entire life to make sure you and your sister were provided for and taken care of.”

I ignored her defense of the man. “Have you been in contact with anyone suspicious in any way? Any phone calls with no voice on the other end of the line? Mysterious numbers calling you? Being followed? Anything?”

Dad shook his head. “Nothing. I swear to you, sweetheart, there’s been nothing?”

“Did you sign anything?”

“No. Not a damn thing.”
