“I’ll make myself one, but I’m still pissed that you forced me on this fucking boat.”

Aidan’s eyes danced with amusement. “Fair enough.”

“Where will we go? We can’t just hide out here forever,” I started, getting alcohol out of a cabinet to make our drinks.

“It’s still our vacation. We’ll make the most of it and then head back.” He sighed a little to himself, appearing a little too comfortable at the wheel of a boat. If I had it my way though, it’d be the last time I saw him at the helm of one.

“Sounds mighty convenient, Aidan. I’m almost convinced this was all part of your plan.” Strolling over to the bar, glasses clinked as I removed them from a low cabinet.

“I’d love to take credit for our festive, action-packed start, but even I’m not that good,” my annoying companion countered, chuckling happily to himself. “Besides, I got blood on one of my favorite shirts.”

“That was on you, dude. I’m always dressed for a fight,” I snapped back, then fixed my leather jacket with a covert smile. “Although, that one dude was a sprayer. I didn’t expect him to explode like that.”

Aidan all but rolled his eyes, tossing back his sandy-blonde locks like he was at a photoshoot and not steering us away from a gang of demons bent on killing us. “That’s thanks to your inhuman strength.”

“Your fault for standing too close, buddy. I was just trying to get the job done.”

“Sometimes I feel like the creative license you take with killing demons is a little too much for even me.”

I huffed an amused breath. “I’m an artist, what can I say.”

“M’hm,” he hummed, unable to hide his grin.

“Fuck off, you smarmy bastard,” I barked, then turned my attention back to grabbing what I needed to make a couple of Sex on the Beaches.

I may spit venom at him, but Aidan’s plan was clever despite how much I hated it. We’d be alone. If the demons found us, it’d be easier to control the fight where we were. Weapons were hidden everywhere on this fucking death trap, and I’d be stupid to say it wasn’t impressive that he managed to procure it so quickly and stock the thing to the teeth with weaponry.

But when I looked up, ready to call the asshole over to grab his drink, I wasn’t at the bar on a yacht; I was standing alone and staring at rolling waves for as far as the eye could see. Thunder rumbled forebodingly in the sky, threatening the usual storm, and the scent of rain and sea salt filled the air. Without looking, I sensed the demon behind me.

That’s new. I can finally detect this motherfucker.

“You really need to find another hobby,” I complained. Turning, I found the gleaming green of his eyes dropped to where my ass had been.

Horny bastard.

The gorgeous asshole’s lips were already lifted into a seductive smile, probably finding my commentary and facial expressions as amusing as he did every time he stole me away to whatever the fuck this place was.

His suit jacket was left open, half of the buttons on his dress shirt undone, and he looked like the embodiment of sin standing in moonlight. The skies parted, painting the area in an eerie glow before flashes of lightning painted our unmoving forms and another clap of thunder took the light with it.

“I’m not going to join you, no matter what sexy tricks you play,” I said, a little breathless.

Nova’s eyes swept down my body before he offered me another devilish smile. Extra emphasis on the devil part. “Aren’t you a little curious?” he asked.

“About?”

“About why I continue to come to you?” His glowing green eyes flashed and his body momentarily illuminated with another crack of lightning. “Aren’t you curious, pet?”

“If by curious you mean annoyed by the fact that you drag me into whatever this shit is every chance you get, then yes.”

This time was different, though. I could feel it in the way my body moved. I was free to think, to speak, to move, and to even argue the way I wanted. I wasn’t held hostage to whatever power he used on me the last however many times I was stolen away into this weird dream.

Something had changed.

Nova beamed another smile before taking a stroll around my body, eyes staying with me. I kept my gaze straight ahead and waited until he’d done his little predatory circle, outright defiant now that I had a choice to be.

“You’ve already broken through some of my power, and without an ounce of training. I wasn’t wrong about you. I need you, and Iwillhave you.” He came back into view, and I offered him a sardonic eyebrow raise.

“Okay. Look. If you promise to release me after hearing you out, then I’ll let you babble like the super villain you clearly think you are. I’m feeling charitable today.”
