That chance is here and now. She’s in my arms. No more guessing, no more hoping. Next time has arrived and I’ll spend all day, every day, clinging to this fact: I’m in her life and nothing short of death will keep me away.

“It was perfect, Bryce. I had no idea it could be like that,” she says in awe. “I never knew it could be that incredible. How was it for you?” she asks, a hint of insecurity in the question.

“Yes, it was perfect for me too,” I say. What I don’t say is that I always knew it would be.

An unconventional but compatible rhythm is established through the upcoming week.

I go to work, run my meetings, and supervise my team under the watchful eye of either Jake or Louis who are introduced as visiting administrators from Moscow. It helps that no one in my US staff speaks Russian, so the secret bodyguards remain generally undisturbed while shadowing me or using my attached conference room as their temporary office.

Bryce brings me lunch every day. It’s an easy cover, considering we, in fact, eat lunch and “visit.” If by visit you mean grab and kiss each other in every corner of my office. We’re voracious, although he’s cautious about going too far.

“I won’t be able to react to anything else when my cock is inside you,” he says, hand on my wrist so I can’t unbuckle his belt while we stand beside my desk. It’s Thursday. The week’s midday groping has distracted me from my afternoon duties.

“But you can react when we’re kissing?” I tease while placing kisses on his jaw and down his neck.

“Higher chance of probability,” he says stiffly.

“What are your data points? We should attempt an unbiased comparison of the two scenarios.” I turn to face the desk and bend forward, my pants pulling to rub against my soaked center.

“Ana, you’re pushing it.” Bryce grabs my hips and grinds his erection against the crack between my butt cheeks. I lean into him, seeking more pressure. A large palm drops a playful spank.

“Eat your lunch,” he orders. “I have to go over security assessment reports all afternoon. And you have to finish planning the manufacturing plant tour for the board of directors. There’s also an audit with your team today at four.”

“It’s weird that you know every minute of my schedule.” Weird and weirdly sexy, to be honest.

“Isn’t that what a good boyfriend would do?”

“No, but I think that’s what a good stalker would say.”

He shrugs. “I’ve always liked knowing where you were or what you were doing. At least now I’ve got an official reason. Hurry up and eat before the food gets cold.”

“You always liked knowing what I was doing?”

With a raised brow, he answers my question with his own. “Does that bother you?”

“It probably should.” But does it? More than anything, I’m intrigued.

He chuckles but offers no clarification. Bryce’s eyes are usually iridescent blue, but at the moment they are dilated to nearly black. Something occurs to me.

“You’re not wearing any contact lenses. You don’t need glasses anymore?”

“Laser eye surgery. All the better to see you with, little girl.”

I snort but turn my attention to the container of shrimp pad thai he brought for me. Bryce offers me a bite of his basil chicken and it’s so good, I want to swap. So, of course we do.

Unless it involves his uber protectiveness, Bryce seems perfectly content to give me anything I want. Lots of data points to prove that particular claim.

For instance, I’ve loved the way his unshaven jaw feels against my skin in the morning and asked him if he’d consider holding off shaving. I’ve never seen him with a beard. Now he’s growing a beard.

Maybe the most important evidence of Bryce’s indulgence is his willingness to answer my questions. I’ve peppered him with a lot of them this week.

Do you like living in the desert?

He hates the heat and has taken up hockey as a sport just to be near the ice. Also to keep up with Alec and Cale, who got their first pairs of skates when they turned four.

Why are you built like a walking boulder?

Working with military veterans and ex-cops means they wouldn’t clear him for field work unless he passed the same kind of rigorous physical tests they had to endure. He was already the top computer guy; he didn’t want to get stuck behind a monitor all day too.
