“Let me.” Remi brushes the pad of his thumb across my lips before cradling my jaw, tipping my chin toward him. “Mae.” It’s a whisper, a plea. A promise of what’s to come.

Lust and yearning wrap around me, around us. Pulling us closer. Our skin is magnetized and charged, begging for a spark. I’m so lost in this moment. His breath drifts across my lips like a whispered secret, scandalous and delicious.

Goddess help me. I’m trying to not give in, but every fantasy I’ve ever imagined since he’s been here is at the forefront of my mind. Each one fighting to take first place.

Do I fuck him first or let him fuck me? I certainly have plans for those fingers. Oh, and that tongue. Though the thought of physical sex gives me a high, the emotional pull is what sends me fishtailing toward the moon.

Would he hold me after? Could I let my guard down and let him in?

My heart aches, telling me that this is more than needing to get off on a hot body. I want intimacy. I want it with him.

I inch in, practically tasting the malt on his breath.

“Bab—”

“Emmie! Mommy!” Isabel’s voice shrieks through the baby monitor. It’s an alarm bell: Warning! Warning! Abort mission and run for your life!

So I jump up and do just that, shoving right through the hazy tension between us. His soft curse is the only indication he’s somewhat affected.

“We’re not finished,” is all he says as he breezes past me toward Isabel’s room.

Chapter 13

Meet Cody

Remi

Kiara starts on me as soon as I walk into her kitchen. “I talked to Mandy the other day, and she says you haven’t called her back. I thought you two were getting on.”

“You do know that I’m a twenty-six-year-old man capable of navigating his love life, not needing his big sister to butt in, right?” I snicker, pulling a brownie off the counter and popping it in my mouth.

“Is it so bad that I want to see you with a nice girl?”

Swallowing the thick chocolate, I reply to her rhetorical question. “What if I don’t want a girl, Kiara?”

My sister snaps her head at me. “Oh.” Her eyes widen. “I might know some guys that are available.”

I nudge her arm with my elbow. “That’s not what I meant.” I bite my lip because … how do I tiptoe around this? How can I feel her out without tipping her off that I’m attracted to my client? “I’m not looking for a girl. Maybe a woman is what I want.”

“Really, Remi? Semantics.” Even though Kiara is over thirty, she still rolls her eyes at me. “Mandy is a nice woman.”

“What if I was interested in someone older than Mandy?” Tiptoe. Tiptoe. Watch out for landmines.

My sister narrows her eyes. She doesn’t miss a thing. “How old are we talking?”

“Forty years.”

Kiara pushes me in the chest. “What the fuck is wrong with you?” Her voice is a high shriek, letting me know the bomb fuse has been ignited and if I don’t let her in on the joke soon, I’m dead meat.

But I’m having fun, so… “Yeah, she’s one of Gram’s friends. You remember Ruth, right? She’s on the younger side.”

Kiara’s shoulders relax as she catches on. I get pushed again. “You’re such an asshole. You don’t deserve Ruth.”

We laugh, and I flick her in the forehead. “Seriously, though. Would a ten-year age difference piss you off?” I bite my thumbnail, waiting for her answer. Even though my sister is important to me, her opinion wouldn’t matter anyway. You can’t help who you’re attracted to.

“I don’t think that’s too bad. I mean, Cody is eight years older than me and as much as it pains me to say it, you’re pretty mature for your age.” Wow, a compliment. “Don’t let it go to your head, dipshit.”

Wrapping an arm around her neck, I give her a nuggie. “You love me. Admit it.”
