“Thanks.”
“Why tell me now?”
“Pope. He always told us that secrets between a brother and the club are the first fracture. Every day in that lie, the club begins to crumble. I don’t want secrets between us, Leo. I’m loyal to you, to this club, and I guess I wanted you to know I’ve got my shit sorted out. I won’t make the same mistakes again.”
Leo holds out his hand. I take it, and he pulls me against him.
“No matter what fuckin’ happens, I’m here. This club has you and always will.”
We walk back towards his house, and I split off toward Grumps’s grave.
“I always wanted to be like you, and even more so now. I’m going to grow old like you, watch my family grow like you did,and I’m gonna protect them like you did. And I’m gonna be the Lost Soul you and Dad raised us to be.”
