My mate.

I stay lodged firmly within her body as I tuck her against my chest.

Gods, I hope she doesn’t reject me for this. How I used her body so thoroughly for my pleasure.

She’s so quiet. I wonder what she’s thinking. I know she’s not asleep.

Gods, maybe she hates me after all.

“Remi?”

“Hm?”

“Are you okay? Did I hurt you?”

She laughs, a soft chuckle at first that builds into a full body giggle. “What do you think?”

Before I can ask for clarification, she leads my hand over her body and curls my fingers over her clit.

She shivers. “We’re doing that again.”

Remi Storm

I wake alone.I can’t remember a time I’ve had a more restful sleep. Then again, I had a pretty active night despite my promises to have an early evening. I stretch and welcome all the aches. I can feel the dopey smile stretch across my face.

Lucky left a pile of apples by my bed on the nightstand. They truly were golden apples. I clean up, packing away my things. Jonah may be okay staying one more day. I feel guilty just thinking about it, considering I’ve been away from my business for the weekend, and I don’t normally stay incommunicado.

My clients might all have run away, and I’m not sure I care that much. If I need to change my business model, I know I can do that.

I knock on Jonah’s door and find it empty. It’s also cleaned out, so I know he has been here since last night. I head downstairs and hear voices coming from the dining area. That has to be Jonah with Vain Val.

I feel the stairs and pause when I walk into the dining room in conversation.

“I see someone is sleeping in,” Jonah says. “Busy night?”

Val hides her face, which has gone rosy as she takes a long sip of coffee. Between the both of them, I have a revelation. “My night was restful, thank you for asking,” I say woodenly as I grab a couple of scoops of eggs and biscuits and drop them on my plate. I settle into the seat opposite them.

“Do you want some tea, dear?” Jonah says. “After all, your voice seems a little hoarse.”

I glare at him. Between Val giggling and Jonah’s obvious innuendos, they know what I was doing last night into the morning.

I calmly set my coffee cup down. “I don’t need to be lectured right now.”

“I’m guessing not,” Jonah says, “I’m also guessing you don’t have the strength to do much talking back, so let me just say this: In the future, when your nighttime lover decides to upset everyone’s sleep, at least do us all a favor by going to a soundproof room.”

It’s my turn to blush furiously, especially since Val guffaws so loudly, spewing tea everywhere.

I help tamp the spills with my napkin. “Noted. Are you done with these innuendos?”

“For now.”

“Were you planning on leaving tonight after the festival, or would you want to stay one more day?”

“I’d love to stay, baby girl, but I’ve already planned a couple of appointments for us this week, and I would like to prepare. It would be one thing if we had Wi-Fi here, but most of my work stuff that I need to reference is back at our offices. At any rate, it’s not as if this is forever, anyway. If I need to leave just to come back, I’ll do so. For now, there are still some unfinished businesses that I would like to take care of, and I can always come back.”

“So, what’s the plan today?”

“We are going to Avalon Vale, and I am going to show you around all those things that you’ve missed yesterday. Plus, there will be that sculpture unveiling that Lucky and the Firebird community are supposed to be upon Avalon Vale, right at the town square as well. And because we like our excuse to feast, there will be another feast showcasing more of the eateries that will be available here in the coming months.”
