“Right!” Liv saw that the flight attendants were eyeing them impatiently. There was no more line; everyone else had boarded.

Liv took Juliette’s hand. “Do you not have any hand luggage?”

“No luggage at all. I didn’t have time to pack.”

“So you’re going to a foreign country with nothing more than your purse and the clothes you’re wearing?”

Juliette shrugged. “I can buy new clothes there.” She took Liv’s hand and squeezed it. “Everything I need is right here.”

“Yeah, yeah, come on, you two saps. If we miss this flight, there isn’t another one for six hours.”

Liv couldn’t resist kissing Juliette once more before turning to follow a very smug-looking Meg onto the plane.

She and Juliette stepped into the aisle holding hands.

Liv still couldn’t believe it. The fog of despair was gone, banished so thoroughly that she had trouble even remembering what it had felt like. Her heart was lighter than air as she and Juliette took their seats. Juliette swapped with someone so that they could sit together. Meg was grinning almost as widely as Juliette and Liv. Liv knew that Meg was relieved everything had worked out so wonderfully – though not as relieved as she was.

All the excitement Liv had felt at the thought of branching out her business resurfaced, somehow multiplied tenfold now that she knew Juliette would be there with her through it all.

“I can’t believe you came out to her for me.”

“I’d do anything for you, Liv. It just took me a while to realize that.”

“You really think she’ll accept you? Accept us?”

“She wouldn’t have bought me this plane ticket if she wasn’t serious about trying.”

“She bought the plane ticket?”

“Yeah. I mean, I was planning on coming after you anyway, but I was so upset that I probably would have taken a few days to calm down and followed you when I was more stable. But she gave me the ticket, and I knew it would be better to catch you now, before you left.”

“I’m glad you did. I don’t know how I would have survived, knowing that I was leaving you for good.”

“Well, now you’ll never need to find out.”

“Yeah,” Liv sighed happily, putting an arm around Juliette’s shoulders. “I don’t want to live without you again.”

“You won’t have to. I’m not going to live like I was – living in fear that my mom might find out who I truly am. From now on, I’m going to live my life in love, not in fear.”

“Not in fear,” Liv agreed.

If this was a dream, Liv prayed that she never woke up.

Epilogue

Juliette- 2 years later

“Juliette. Breathe. Liv is waiting for you. You’re going to be fine.”

“Liv.” Juliette forced herself to think of her fiancé – her wife, in less than half an hour.

“That’s right, Liv. Now come on. The music is starting. I’ll have none of this fashionably late business from my own daughter.”

Juliette nodded, clutching her mom’s arm. Laura walked her steadily down the aisle, setting a slow pace that Juliette never would have managed on her own. As she rounded the corner, she saw Kane just finishing his own walk with Liv, kissing her on the cheek before going taking his place in the front row.

Juliette’s eyes were on Liv from the moment she turned to face her. They had agreed not to look at each other’s outfits until the wedding, but as she missed a step at the sight of Liv, Juliette suddenly wondered if that had been a good idea.

Thankfully, Laura’s arm was there, helping her to balance. She righted herself, letting her eyes feast on Liv. Her Liv. Beautiful, amazing Olivia Jones- soon to be her wife.
