“If you go to Belgium, she will.”

Oh yes. Liv had forgotten about that. Meg had a long distance boyfriend in Belgium who she had been with for three years. They visited when they could, but flights from Europe to the US were expensive.

Liv knew that Meg had talked about moving to Belgium, but finding a job there was difficult. If Meg agreed, it should actually work out perfectly.

“That’s a great idea. Belgium it is. I’ll talk to Meg in the morning. She’s going to be thrilled.”

‘Thrilled’ didn’t’ even begin to cover it. Meg was ecstatic. Liv gave her the morning off, supposedly to call Alex, but really, it was to give Meg some time to calm down. She was too full of excited energy to settle to anything, let alone work.

This had been a great idea. It was impossible not to pick up some of Meg’s enthusiasm. Liv had always liked a challenge, and this would be one of the biggest challenges in her career. She was sure she could make it work, and couldn’t stop thinking about how satisfying it would be to create something entirely her own, something she had achieved without her father by her side.

Liv loved working with her father, and she didn’t resent the fact that almost everything they had accomplished had been a team effort. However, she found the idea of succeeding with nothing but her own talents to back her up enticing.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a completely solo venture. She would have company funds to help her get started, and she would of course rely on her dad’s experience and advice. However, she would be on her own in more ways than she ever had been before.

“When do we leave?”

Meg’s voice broke Liv out of her thoughts. “Oh. Well, how soon can you be ready to leave?”

“I can get my stuff packed by tonight.”

Liv chuckled. “Hold your horses. It’s going to take me at least a few days to get everything ready.”

She would probably be able to get her stuff packed sooner, except she wanted to do it sneakily. She didn’t want Juliette to know until she was already gone. Perhaps it was cowardly, but Liv didn’t want to face final goodbyes.

Once she was gone, who knew if she would ever see Juliette again? Sure, she’d visit home, but that didn’t mean she and Juliette would necessarily run into each other.

The thought of never seeing Juliette again was like a punch to the gut, but Liv reminded herself that this was what she wanted. A fresh start, away from heartache and loneliness. She was sure that those emotions would follow her to some extent, but she’d have Meg with her and the challenge of starting a new business to keep her busy.

“Liv? Are you alright?”

“What? Oh yes, I’m fine. Just thinking.”

“This is definitely happening, right? You’re not going to change your mind?”

“I would never do that to you, Meg. I wouldn’t have offered you this opportunity if I wasn’t sure. We’re going to live in Belgium.”

Meg squealed in excitement – for about the fourth time today – and ran to hug Liv. “I can’t believe it! What made you decide on Belgium?”

“Honestly? I wanted you to come with me to Europe, and I figured that if I picked Belgium, it would be an offer you couldn’t refuse.”

“You’re right about that. You just wait, Liv – this is going to be epic. I’ll handle everything. You’ll barely have any work to do.”

Liv didn’t doubt that Meg could kick that admin in the ass, but she did need to keep busy. She was sure that while Meg could do it alone, she would also be grateful for the help.

“Alex says you’re welcome to stay with us until you find your own place.”

Oh. Liv hadn’t expected that. “I’d really appreciate that. I think it’ll be a lot easier if I start off living with people I know.”

Liv could easily afford to get a solo place, but she was toying with the idea of finding a roommate. She had never lived alone and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to. She was going to be lonely enough; no need to add to that.

“You can stay as long as you need. I’m sure we’ll all get along just fine. Alex is great, you’ll see.”

“I’m sure he is.” Excitement was curling in Liv’s belly. “This is going to be great.”

“I hope you like cats.”

Liv sighed. “How many does he have now?”
