Juliette chuckled along with her. “I guess we’ll need to work on our story. But best not to get caught in that position in the first place.”

“Agreed. Anyway, I should go, before she comes to check in on us again.”

Juliette couldn’t help but pull Liv in for one more kiss. “Goodnight, Liv. Sleep well.”

“Sleep well, Juliette. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

The words were a seduction and a promise all rolled into one. When Liv left, Juliette threw herself onto the bed, a silly grin spreading across her face.

She and Liv were dating. For real, not just as an experiment.

If she was being honest with herself, it had been more than an experiment to Juliette for some time now, but it still felt good to make it official.

Her smile faded as she thought about all this meant. It meant that the sneaking around and hiding from their parents would no longer be temporary. That would be the rest of their lives. Did they really want to live like that?

It was worth it, Juliette decided. For Liv, it was worth it. Even if they could never be together openly, they knew what was in their hearts, and that’s what mattered, not what other people saw.

Juliette had a brief glimpse of a future she could never have – one where her mother walked her down the aisle and handed her over into Liv’s arms… but it wasn’t to be. Juliette had better get those ideas out of her head right now, before they threatened to consume her with sadness.

Sad was the last thing she was feeling right now. She was positively elated that Liv had agreed to be with her properly, despite knowing that it would mean a lifetime of lies and hiding. It meant the world to Juliette that Liv valued her that much.

She fell asleep with a smile on her face.

“Oh, hi!”

“What are you looking at your phone so intently about? Did we get any updates from Lessi Corporation?”

“No, I was just texting Juliette.” Texting her dirty messages that were making Liv hot and flustered in all the best ways.

“You two certainly seem to be getting on well.” Kane gave her a knowing look that Liv didn’t like at all.

“She’s become a good friend,” Liv said guardedly. She wished more than anything that she could be honest with her father. She was sure that he would be supportive. However, she was also sure that he wouldn’t keep it from Laura.

If it was up to her, she and Juliette would brave Laura’s reaction, but Liv would never do something like that without clearing it with Juliette first. It had been three months now since they had started dating officially, beyond the guise of ‘experiment’. Maybe it was time to broach the subject.

“Did you need anything, Dad?”

“No, I was just checking on you. You seem… distracted.”

Liv’s insides squirmed guiltily. She had thought she was doing a good job at concentrating on work even when all she wanted to do was spend time with Juliette, but maybe she wasn’t doing as well as she’d thought.

“I’m sorry, Dad. I’m just… stressed.”

“I told you that you’ll work yourself into a nervous breakdown. You should take a week off.”

“I can’t do that! There’s too much work to be done.”

“You forget that I was CEO before you. Take a break, Liv. I can hold down the fort for a week.”

“Are you sure?”

“Absolutely. Go home. Surprise Juliette.” He winked at her. Fuck, he knew. He may not be saying it, but he knew anyway.

“I’m sure she’s busy working,” Liv said quickly. “I won’t bother her.”
