“What’s wrong?” Len asks. “You need help?”

I can’t tear my eyes off myself. It’s like the dress was made for me. I don’t answer her, but instead open the door and step out. As soon as she takes me in, her eyes grow huge and her mouth drops open. “I fucking knew it!”

Her loud voice carries through the store and a few heads turn our way.

“Shhh,” I laugh and my cheeks grow warm. Like always.

“Damn, I’ve got good taste. Spin, let me see all angles.”

I twirl in place and Len whistles.

“Landon is going to lose his shit over you.”

I make a face. “Why? It’s a fake date.”

Len snorts. “We’ll see how long it stays that way.”

“I’m all set.”

“You might be. But him? I doubt it after seeing you in this dress.”

“He probably cares more about getting the dress off me rather than admiring me in it.”

“Good point. It is Landon after all.” Len looks me up and down again. “I really am that amazing.”

I laugh and walk back into the fitting room. “Okay, dress is done. Time to accessorize.”

Three hours later, we walk out of the mall, our arms full of bags, and Landon’s credit card on fire.

A pair of strappy heels, a silky evening jacket, and some jewelry and I have everything I need. Len wouldn’t let me leave without getting a bra and panties set and I finally caved, picking out a black lacy matching set with some red lace mixed in.

“When is Landon coming back to get his card?” Len asks me after we’re settled in my bed, pjs on. Maia said she was spending the day with Alex but would try to come home for dinner. So far we haven’t heard if she’s coming or not.

“He didn’t say.” I grab a handful of popcorn. “Guess I can keep it.”

“Ha! He’ll be by sometime tonight, I bet. Don’t show him the dress.”

“Why not?”

“He needs to squirm a bit. Make him wonder. Use his imagination. It’ll do him some good.”

“Oh what fun it is to tease the teaser.” I smirk.

“Isn’t it? I knew you’d enjoy it. Just wait until he sees you in that dress.”

“He’s gonna melt like butter on hot toast.”

Len dissolves into giggles. “What are you fifty? Who says that?”

Now I’m laughing. “My parents. Please forget I said it.”

“There’s no forgetting! I’m glad you’re confident though. Which you totally should be.”

I smile at my friend, my closest friend I’ve made since coming to SCU, and I’m thankful we were assigned roommates all those years ago. “Thanks, Len. What would I do without you?”

“I honestly don’t know. But don’t worry, you won’t have to find out.” Len grins and I put my arms out for a hug which she happily accepts.

After we break apart, she pulls out her phone. “Let’s search for the best spa around here. I’ll come with you if you want.”
