“So are you?” Dark asked. “Pregnant, I mean?”

“Am I pregnant?” Lili couldn’t help laughing. “I haven’t even had sex in the last four or five years!” she exclaimed.

“You haven’t?” Dark frowned. “Why not?”

“Dark! You can’t ask her something like that!” Light scolded.

“No, no—it’s all right,” Lili said. “It’s because after I divorced my ex, Mitch, I kind of swore off men and relationships completely. I decided to be SFL—Single for Life.”

Dark shook his head.

“That ex-mate of yours must have been a real bastard to put you off males entirely.”

“He was horrible,” Lili said frankly. “He refused to help out around the house in any way. All he did was lay around playing video games and watching golf and then, when I got home I’d have to clean up all the messes he’d made while I was working. Oh, and he hounded me for sex constantly,” she added, making a face. “Which turned it into a chore—just another thing I had to get done and check off my to-do list.”

“You don’t like sex?” Dark asked. “Don’t you find it pleasurable?”

“Dark!” Light began, but Lili stopped him with a hand on his arm.

“No, it’s okay. I told you guys you could talk to me about your feelings, so I’ll be honest and talk about mine too,” she said.

She didn’t know why she felt so comfortable talking to the two big Kindred so candidly—maybe because of what they had been through together or maybe because she didn’t feel judged by them in any way.

“Well, go on then,” Dark nudged her with an elbow. “Couldn’t your ex-mate make you come? Is that why you didn’t like sex?”

Light got an exasperated look on his face, but didn’t say anything this time.

Lili could feel her own cheeks getting hot, but she had promised to answer their questions.

“Well, no—Mitch didn’t make me come,” she admitted, her cheeks burning. “But to tell the truth, he hardly tried. He wasn’t a very, uh, giving lover,” she added. “The man didn’t even know the meaning of the word, ‘foreplay’ if you know what I mean.”

“What? He was demanding that you have sex with him but he wasn’t even trying to make it good for you?” Light exclaimed, sounding indignant.

“Did he taste you, at least?” Dark asked.

Lili cleared her throat.

“Um, if you’re asking if he, uh, went down on me, the answer is a definite ‘no.’ Mitch didn’t like that—he said it was ‘too messy.’” Though of course, her ex had expected her to give him regular blow jobs, even though he never returned the favor.

“What the fuck was wrong with him?” Dark wanted to know. “How could he be mated to such a sweet, curvy Elite and not want to taste your pussy?”

“Well…” Lili was blushing harder than ever at his frank words. “I guess because he mostly just wanted to get off himself,” she said. “And afterwards, he’d roll over and go right to sleep.”

“What a fucking asshole!” Dark growled.

“For once, I agree with you, Brother.” Light frowned. “What kind of male doesn’t put his female’s pleasure before his own?”

“A lot of them, actually—at least human males,” Lili said dryly. “After I got free of Mitch, I had a few dates—all of them awful. So I decided it was just easier to, you know, please myself,” she added, feeling her cheeks get hot again.

“Well, there’s nothing wrong with getting yourself off,” Dark remarked. “But it sounds fucking lonely.”

“I’d rather be lonely than be with another Mitch,” Lili said, lifting her chin. “The years since my divorce have been the happiest in my life. I can do what I want and go where I want and my house is always clean. It’s wonderful.”

“So you’re determined never to seek another relationship with a male…or males?” Light asked. “Even if you found two that you liked very much?”

“Well…” Lili wasn’t sure what to say. She was suddenly very aware of the two big male bodies on either side of her.

They were both so warm and this close, she could smell their distinctive scents as well. Dark had a smoky, spicy scent like a campfire at night and Light smelled like fresh cut cedar. Both of them had a distinctly masculine under-note to their scents that seemed to draw her to them.
