Just like she and Noah had been by each other’s side. A united force and together they had witnessed how each child had missed the parent that wasn’t with them. Noah understood better now. And that is why Noah was accompanying her to her archaeologist conference and they were bringing both children. Henry was going to fly in and spend some time with Ish and Lisa was going to the do the same with Emily. The trip from Saudi to London was much shorter than a return to Australia.
Henry had made a few trips out in the past year. The town was considering building a helicopter pad just for his flying visits.
‘When the kids are with their mum and dad, we’ll get some time alone. What on earth will we do with ourselves in a fancy room at Claridge’s?’
She leaned into him, her lips touching his. ‘Oh, I hear the room service is exceptional and there is a very good movie selection and endless alcohol available. I don’t think we’ll even need to leave the room.’
‘That is exactly what I’d hoped for!’
Their mouths connected, lingered, savouring each other.
‘If this is a dream, it’s the best dream I’ve ever had and I hope I never wake up.’
She rested her arms around his shoulders, the crowd, the noise, everything muted. ‘Thank you, Noah. Thank you for being you and doing as you say and believing in me and being someone I can trust and rely upon. I love you, Noah Hawthorn.’
‘I can’t say it better than this.’ Noah ripped out a piece of scrap paper and recited:
My heart was crumbling, a splattered and squashed mess
Until along came Ava Montgomery to alleviate my distress
Happiness then followed me around like a bright burning sun
Life suddenly became more fun.
Obstacles were in our path, hers more heinous
Depriving us of any gayness
My family troubles clouded my vision
Until our paths were aligned, heading for a collision.
Realising our greatest fears were released
Meant changing track, goals idealised
But the only way ahead was together
Close in each other’s arms, forever.
‘Gayness!’ she laughed.
‘I know! I’m still working on it, but you get the gist.’ He smothered her giggling with a kiss.
