I wake the next morning frustrated for a woman who just had one of the most mind-blowing sexual experiences of her life.

The smell of something delicious has me snapping open my eyes, and I discover the source: a tray with Greek coffee and a pastry, along with a pack of my old brand of cigarettes.

I grab the note.

I haven’t seen you smoke since you officially quit, so I’m not sure why you even want these, but if you really want a pack that bad, here you go. You want me to grovel? Consider me the world fucking champion of groveling.

Your puppy (if that’s what it takes),

Fabio

I snort a laugh as I grab the Greek coffee and take a sip—the perfect amount of kaimaki—before nibbling on the pastry.

Taking a quick shower, I cinch the belt on my robe as I walk out of the guest room and stick my head in Iris’ room. Her bed’s empty, and I hurry to the kitchen with my coffee to find her seated on a stool, going to town on a donut.

“Kat! Uncle Fabio got me donuts!” she says excitedly with her mouth covered in chocolate.

“Sweet,” I tell her with a smile. “Did you tell him thank you?”

“Thank you,” she chirps.

“And thank you, Uncle Fabio, for my breakfast surprise,” I tell him, sipping my coffee.

He flashes his dimples. “You’re welcome, Aunt Kat.”

“See, you two are being nice to each other. Now you can kiss,” Iris says, and I nearly spit out my coffee.

“Your boyfriend better not be kissing you,” Fabio says.

“No! He doesn’t kiss me.” Iris giggles. “But I kissed him.” Fabio’s head looks like it might explode. “Kat, do you want Fabio to kiss you?” she asks me.

“I haven’t decided yet.” Yes, I let Fabio back into my bed last night…but back into my heart is a different matter.

“She hasn’t decided yet,” Iris relays the message. “Uncle Fabio, do you want Kat to kiss you?”

“Always,” he says with such intensity I have to look away. “Iris, let’s finish up. I’m taking you home this morning, and I don’t want to hear about you kissing any more boys.”

“Okay, I won’t tell you,” she says in all seriousness.

“You heard from Darius?” I interject, and he nods. “Fabio, can I talk to you in the living room for just a sec?” I say.

“Uh-oh. You get in trouble almost as much as Darius,” Iris comments to Fabio.

I lead Fabio into the other room. “Well?”

“Well what?” he says.

“What happened?” I huff.

Fabio shrugs. “Darius and Lily’s business; not ours.”

My phone buzzes, and I slip my hand into the robe pocket and retrieve it. “What, you’re not going to snatch my phone out of my hand and read my message?” I jibe, unlocking my screen and pulling up the message. “Oh.”

“What?” he says, snatching my phone out of my hand and reading my message from an unknown sender.
