“And hanging with Vince is about as much fun as you’d imagine,” Luna pipes up. “Oooh, I want to hang at the pool,” she amends when we walk through the courtyard.

Vince shakes his head. “Everyone inside.”

“See what I mean.” Luna sighs dramatically.

I unlock the back door and step inside, flipping on the light and turning off the alarm. Making a beeline straight for the liquor cabinet, I grab a bottle of whiskey and pour myself and Taylor a finger’s worth. “Drink.” I hand Taylor the glass and grab mine, and we both knock back the booze.

“Don’t even think about it,” Vince tells Luna, and she drops her hand from the bottle.

She says something under her breath as she puts on headphones and plops down in a chair with her laptop.

Taylor walks over to the sliding glass doors to check out the view. “Start talking,” she tells me when I join her.

“I’m not sure where to begin,” I admit.

“How about the part where you married your ‘summer fling?’” Taylor guesses.

I smile. “That’s the best part.”

A key jiggles the lock, and the door opens with Fabio holding a takeout bag and two coffees. He places everything on the entrance table, and I run to his arms. “Hey, Mrs. Mazza.” He peppers my lips with kisses.

“Hey, Mr. Mazza.” He hands me a coffee and the bag. “Yes,” I groan, taking a sip of coffee and peeking inside the bag to find pastries.

“Vince, thank you. I’ve got it from here,” Fabio says.

“No problem, skipper. Luna,” Vince calls, and she puts her laptop in her bag and walks to the door.

“Bye, Luna. Good luck with your tournament,” I tell her.

“Thanks,” she says glumly for whatever reason as she follows Vince out.

“Taylor, I’m Fabio Mazza, Katerina’s husband. On behalf of the family I want to apologize for what happened to you.”

“The family,” she says numbly, and I nod when she glances at me.

“Here, coffee will help,” Fabio says, handing her a cup.

“Thanks.” She takes a big swig. “Wow, this is good.” She takes another sip. “What kind of coffee is this?”

“Espresso mixed with sodium thiopental. Now, tell me if you’re working with Gavin,” he menaces to my friend.

“Jesus Christ,” I mutter, slapping a hand to my forehead.

“No,” Taylor giggles. “Why am I laughing?”

“You were working with Dominic,” he continues.

“Dominic? Nooooo.”

“Did you lure Katerina to your house on someone’s orders?”

Taylor exaggeratedly shakes her head. “No, I wanted to see my friend. She’s been keeping secrets. Obvs.”

“On John Davis’ orders?”

“Who?” Taylor says, leaning her head back against the couch.

“Don’t close your eyes. Are you working with John Davis in any capacity?” Fabio presses.
