“Please, be safe.” I whispered as my stomach twisted.

I swallowed hard as we took cover away from the door where those men would burst through at any second.

Damiano and Lorenzo got ready while I held Cara’s hand tightly in mine.

“They got this.” She reassured me, and I took a deep breath to ease my nerves.

“Once we get the chance, we will have to go through that door, then we should be able to find an exit from there.” Michael explained and loaded his gun.

I checked the safety and racked the slide on mine, preparing myself to actually use this weapon.

The door burst open, and the first pair of men barged through. Before they could take more than a couple of steps, Lorenzo, like the Tank Man he is, grabbed them by her necks and smashed their heads together and tossed them aside. Damiano finished them with precise shots of his gun.

“That’s my man.” Cara said, completely mesmerized by the strength of her Tank Man. I too was watching the duo in awe. It was incredible to see them in action.

They were two highly skilled and lethal men, currently taking down one after another as if it were nothing. I kept my eyes on Damiano, making sure he would be okay. Even while injured, he seemed invincible.

The Devil and Tank Man moved around each other with a smooth synergy, covering one another’s backs in a way I hadn’t witnessed even in movies. They were truly a manifestation of one mind in two bodies.

“Now’s our chance!” Michael shouted to us.

We hurriedly got up and ran down the hall, where Damiano and Lorenzo were distracting the others and trying to barricade their way so we could get through.

“Take the exit to your right!” Lorenzo shouted, and we sprinted to get there, even as more men kept appearing for them to fight off.

Breathless, we reached the exit door, and I struggled to catch my breath on the other side. The bulletproof vest weighed heavily on my body, and it was slowing me down.

“Where to?” I asked, trying to make out our surroundings. The hall was dark, and we had to stay close to the wall to feel our way.

“Ava, any help?” Michael asked, and I had completely forgotten she would be able to guide us.

“Sorry, guys. I can’t make out anything. The cameras are busted on that side.”

“Great.” Cara muttered.

“According to the map, there are two doors. Keep going to the very end, and that exit should lead you to the conveyor room. From there, take the stairs, and you will be able to get out.” I absorbed every detail Ava shared while tracing my fingers along the wall to gain a sense of my surroundings.

“Found it!” Cara yelled, and I followed her voice until I could feel her. I squinted my eyes at the sudden bright light when we opened the door.

“And where do you think you’re going?”

My jaw clenched at the voice.

“Carlos.” I sneered when I found him.

“Going so soon, sister?” He laughed and pulled the trigger.

I let out a scream when I landed on the ground with a force, and an immediate surge of pain shot through my shoulder.

“Fuck!” I clenched my teeth, fighting through the pain as I tried to get up on all fours. Groans reached my ears, and I turned my head towards the source.

“Michael!” I gasped, crawling toward him, ignoring my own pain.

“Why did you do that, you idiot?” Cara sat up and reached him.
