I would have stayed to watch, but the thought of my beautiful wife in bed, waiting to be cuddled in my arms, made me leave faster than ever before.

Returning to the mansion, I went upstairs to the bedroom, only to find the bed empty. Before I could call out her name, my eyes landed on the nightstand where a note lay. Grabbing it, a smirk appeared on my lips as I read the message.

I loved a good hunt; especially when it comes to her.

I slipped off my shoes to move silently, attentive to any sounds within the house, but it remained quiet.

I searched the top floor before I made my way downstairs, checking every room before I reached the living room. She was still nowhere to be found. Just as I was about to resume my search, I came to a sudden stop and glanced out of the floor-to-ceiling window. There she was on the other side, grinning sheepishly before running away.

I quickly made my way out, loving she wanted me to chase her. She laughed, increasing the distance by running to the other side of the pool. Tilting my head at her, a smirk played on my lips as I took a step, watching her mirror the movement in the opposite direction.

“I’m going to catch you.” I told her, taking a few slow steps in her direction.

“We’ll see about that. If you do, I will reward you.” Althaia winked, and a particular body part got quite excited at the idea.

“Deal.” I faked a sprint towards her, and she released an excited laugh, racing as fast as she could, descending the stairs and heading to the garden.

Instead of following her directly, I took a detour to a part of the garden I was sure she hadn’t discovered yet. As I walked along the small path, it led me right to her. She was hiding behind a tree, her back facing me as she kept an eye out for where she thought I would be coming from.

“Where did he go?” Althaia whispered to herself.

I sneaked up behind her, and she let out a noise of surprise as I turned her around, pinning her arms above her head.

“Got you, baby.” I whispered.

“Wait—How?” She gasped.

“The Devil’s work.” I winked, pressing close to her, my thumb running across her plump lips.

“You haven’t won yet.” Althaia smirked, dropping to the ground to release her arms from my hold, and made another run for it.

I crossed my arms and leaned against the tree, watching her go before she stopped and looked over her shoulder.

“I’m giving you a head start.” I said.

“Ha! I don’t need a head start!” She grinned.

“Are you sure?” I tilted my head, wearing a teasing smile.

“Positive!” She replied confidently.

We locked eyes for a moment before I slowly let out a smirk.

“Run.” I sprinted towards her, watching her eyes widen.

“Oh, fuck!” She yelled, laughing as she sprinted to the other side of the garden. She was fast, but not faster than me. I could have caught her the moment she turned around, but instead, I deliberately slowed down just to relish the sound of her voice.

Her laughter, a melodic symphony, reached my ears, wrapping around my heart with enchanting warmth. The world around me faded away, leaving only her; the source of my captivation. I silently thanked the universe for making this woman mine.

And I don’t give a shit about how whipped I sound.

“Getting tired, old man?”

“Who are you calling an old man?” I scoffed.
