“I don’t know how.” She put up her hands and bit her lip.

He smiled at her. “I know. I’m going to teach you.”

Leo sat down and leaned against the headboard. Then he pulled her onto his lap between his legs. Once she was snuggled close, he grabbed the guitar and positioned it in front of her. It was easy since it was in front of him also. When he had thought up this plan, this was how he knew he had to teach her.

“I’m not very good at learning things,” she whispered as he positioned her fingers.

“Yes, you are.” He left her hands in position as he moved her hair away from his face, loving the soft texture of it.

Back to her fingers, he showed her how to do a few notes, and then let her pluck at the strings herself. Within a few minutes, she was asking questions and adding notes together. He had been right; she was a quick learner.

Soon enough, she was playing herself, and he was getting distracted because she was in his lap, wiggling and squirming as she played. Her questions were asked with her head tossed back and resting on his shoulder, then she would hunch over the guitar again in total concentration.

Before he did something he would regret, he shifted her away from him and got out of bed. No matter how good she was doing, she was still on bed rest, and he was not going to touch her if there was a danger to the babies. He wasn’t just protective of Lucy, but her babies also.

As he left the room, he stopped and watched her for a moment. She was completely absorbed in what she was doing, and it was adorable how her dark hair fell over her face as she strummed the instrument. Her fingers were carefully placed, just like he had shown her.

Downstairs he cleaned the kitchen, washed the dishes, and then dried them. He reminded himself that just last week, she had been in the hospital because of a miscalculation that had landed her there. He was still mad at her sister for that, but he would be furious at himself if he was the cause of it.

Mind and body back as one, he went back upstairs to show her more if she wanted. All he wanted was to make her happy, and he might have found something that she truly enjoyed.

At the top of the stairs, he didn’t hear the guitar as he walked back toward the bedroom. At the door he saw her still sitting on the bed, but the guitar was lying next to her. What he noticed was her hands on her stomach.

Rushing the last few steps, he sat down as his hands went to her stomach also. “Are they okay? Are you in pain? We need to get to the hospital.”

Before he could move, she grabbed his hands and instantly stopped him. Looking up at him, she had tears in her eyes. “I felt them move. Or one of them, or both, I have no idea. They have never moved before.”

“They must love their Mom’s mad guitar skills,” he said, relieved that there was nothing wrong with her.

Laughing despite the tears in her eyes, she let go of his hand, and her own hands went under her shirt. “I felt it again.”

“Where?” he asked, though after four kids, he knew he wouldn’t feel what she was feeling. But her excitement was contagious.

With one hand, she put his hand on her warm, hard stomach. Then she sat there looking at him, her brown eyes concentrating. Before he could stop himself, he leaned into her and kissed her lips, needing to taste her and that infectious smile just once more.

Her arms reached around his neck, and she kissed him back as his tongue slipped into her mouth, intoxicated by the taste of her. Whether he pushed her back on the bed, or she went and he followed, he didn’t know. Once her back was flat on the bed, his hands started roaming her body, touching every part of her he had been dreaming of.

With a growl, he pulled his lips from hers, not that he wanted to. He wanted to keep doing that with her until the end of time … except she couldn’t.

After catching his breath, he watched her do the same, her eyes on his until she looked away from him, and her hands pushed him away from her. He let her do it, but only until he was sitting by her.

“I have to …” Her voice was husky as she rolled away from him.

Grabbing her wrist, he pulled her back to him. His discomfort be damned; she was crying. She pulled once, then stopped but didn’t turn back to him.

“Lucy, what’s wrong?” he asked softly, not wanting to scare her.

“I am … I am okay with you sleeping with other women. I had no right to tell you that you couldn’t but also not sleep with you myself. That was selfish of me. Please just don’t …” Her voice broke on whatever she was going to say. “I don’t want to know about it.”

“I don’t want to sleep with other women, I want to sleep with you. I do sleep with you, every night. And I plan to keep doing it until you don’t want me to.”

“Leo.” Her voice cracked as she turned away from him.

“No, Lucy, I haven’t thought about anyone else since you agreed to marry me, and actually, you were getting in the way of me dating for months before that.”

“Oh, please. I set up your dates.” She rolled her eyes.

“And why do you think there weren’t that many repeats? Because I was lusting after my personal assistant.” His words were quiet in the big room, but to him it felt like he was yelling. Yelling something he had never admitted, even to himself since he first saw her.
