“And yet he packed you a bikini.”

A smile twitched her lips. “He likes me in a bikini.”

“I bet he does.”

She glanced back at Aiden. “You’ve seen me without a stitch, why are you bothered?”

He grimaced. “Am I coming across all macho and possessive?”

“A little.” She smirked. “A lot, actually.”

“I guess you bring out that side of me.”

They stopped at another set of lights, a grassy park across the road then giving way to stone steps that led down to the white-gold sand of the beach and sets of incoming, dark blue waves edged with frothy white.

The green walk light glowed along with its sound effects to let them know they could cross the road. She walked alongside him and said, “Once upon a time that would have pleased me.”

“And now?”

“And now I’m not so sure.”

His hand squeezed hers. “Let’s just enjoy the beach, then maybe we can enjoy each other...later.”

Her pussy clenched at his promise, and after traversing the steps and seeing no one lying in the vicinity on the sand, she tugged her hand free and stripped off her outer clothes.

His whistle of appreciation made her glad of the bikini. She had a good body, and though she wasn’t shy, she didn’t exactly flaunt her assets, either. Using his distraction to her advantage, she said, “Last one into the water has to give the other twenty minutes of oral!”

She took off running before he’d even had a chance to dump their towels, strip off his clothes and race after her. The thrill of the chase made her go faster than she’d ever gone before, sand kicking out from behind her feet and a flock of gulls lifting from the beach and into the air with patronizing squawks.

She hit the water first, then slowed as she got hip deep. He caught up to her and swung her around as a wave hit them both. His eyes glowed as she spluttered at the drenching force of the water.

“You know I wanted to lose, right?” he murmured.

She splashed him, though every cell in her body quaked in reaction. “You did not!”

He drew her closer, the next wave gentle and serene, making them bob up and then down in its wake. “Either way, we both get to enjoy what I have planned for you later tonight.”

It seemed natural for the salty water to gravitate her closer toward him before she wrapped her legs around his hips. She looked up at him, at his glinting, dark stare and gorgeous lips. As one, he bent as she stretched up for a kiss.

Oh, dear Lord. His lips were made for kissing, for making her forget he was her enemy who hurt her so irreparably. But she was no longer a shell of her former self. She was stronger, more self-aware. Every beat of her heart reminded her of the retribution she owed him.

He drew back, pushing some of her wet, springy hair behind her ears. His eyes shone. “What are your plans, Luna?” he asked huskily.

Her mouth dried as guilt surged. “Whatever do you mean?”

He blinked, his gaze turning speculative. “I mean, where do we go from here in two days from now? A week? A month? Six months?”

Another, more savage wave, kicked them up and over its watery height, and she waited for Aiden’s feet to be planted squarely in the sandy bottom, his hands securely holding her hips, before she answered. “I never took you for a relationship type of guy.”

He flinched, as though wounded by her words. “We might have both been young, but you were my girlfriend for two years. Do you remember when I picked you a red rose from some stranger’s front garden and asked you to be my girlfriend?”

She nodded solemnly, trying not to get lost in the memory that had been so perfectly romantic. “I remember,” she said softly. “It had been Valentine’s day. You were fourteen—we both were.”

“No other girl interested me,” he confessed. “Even back then, you were it for me.”

Even back then? Her chest tightened. She was reading more into his words than what she should. Lust could never be confused with love. “Until I wasn’t.”

His sigh was soft, barely audible over the dull crashing of the waves. “I don’t blame you for hating me. Just know I never intentionally meant to hurt you.”
