Fuck. Nik was right. Did he set me up?

Tom gasps and runs his hands down his face. “Oh, Hazel, what have you done?”

Agent Jones flips to another picture. Nik is cupping my face in his hands, looking down at me with a smile. In the next, his lips brush against mine.

Each picture is worse than the last. There is no room to deny the relationship between me and Nik. The pictures may have only been taken throughout a single night and into the next morning, but they’re more than enough.

I guess I can kiss my career goodbye.

Agent Ryker chuckles and turns to another picture. In the picture, the sheets are wrapped around my waist as I straddle Nik. It shows my back as I ride him, but it’s still clear that we’re having sex.

“Interesting, don’t you think? You insist you do not know Mr. Orlov when you’re pictured intimately with him.” Agent Jones stands up and pulls out a pair of handcuffs. “From your file, you seemed like a promising young agent. I was hoping that we would have been able to see more from you.”

Tom takes a deep breath and turns to face me. “Hazel, tell these men everything that you know. You need to strike whatever deal you can.”

Agent Jones twirls the handcuffs from his finger. “No matter what path you choose, your career in law enforcement is over. Now, if it’s a deal you’re wanting, you’re going to have to tell me everything you know about Nikita Orlov and the Bratva.”

If I want to keep myself out of prison, I must tell them about the murders. I must tell them about the factory and the basement beneath it. They will want to know about his house and the people guarding it.

They want me to break the trust that I’ve built with Nik.

I sit straighter in my chair, the edges of my vision blurring. My body aches from sitting on the harsh metal. I want to get up and pace. Try to get some of the nervous energy out but I can’t.

I need to be as in control of the situation as I can be.

Agent Jones settles back down, but he tosses the handcuffs on the table between us. “You are not entitled to a lawyer as you have willfully chosen to obstruct justice. As a law enforcement officer, it is your responsibility to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. If you choose to lie to me or further obstruct justice, you will go to jail.”

I nod, knowing what I have to do.

Sweat beads on the back of my neck as the camera in the top right corner of the room blinks red. Tom shifts in his seat beside me. His gaze burns into the side of my head, but he doesn’t speak.

For a long few minutes, nobody talks.

I’m not going to be the first to break the silence. If they want to treat me like a criminal, then I have nothing to lose by acting like one.

“There is no need to make this harder than it has to be.” Agent Ryker pulls out a notebook. “We’re going to ask you some questions and you’re going to answer them as honestly as possible.”

“Alright.” I clasp my hands in front of me. “Fire away.”

Agent Ryker’s jaw flexes and his nostrils flare. “Do you have anything to add to your original statement? What can you tell us about Mr. Orlov.”

“No. I don’t know much about him, after my kidnapping he kept me safe.”

“Safe?” Agent Jones rolls his eyes. His suit bunches as he links his hands together behind his head. “Enough, Miss Hudson. Do you expect us to believe the lies you keep telling us?

I smile and shrug. “It’s nothing but the truth and only the truth, Agent Jones. I’m sorry if it’s not what you want to hear.”

Hopefully, I can stall them long enough to give Nik time to get away.

He must have heard that the FBI agents stormed in here by now. I’m sure he’s got informants here at the station.

“Last chance, Miss Hudson.”

“Agent Hudson.” I scowl at both men across from me. “I have not been stripped of my job yet and until I am, you will continue to address me with respect.”

Agent Ryker scoffs and scribbles a note down. “I have no interest in respecting an agent who willingly works with the Bratva. You have turned against your colleagues and put people’s lives in danger. Does that not register with you at all?”

“The sooner you tell us what information you fed the Bratva and what you know of Nikita’s crimes, the sooner this can all be over with.” Agent Jones reaches out for the handcuffs again. “If you continue to mess with us, then you will be going to Cavelleri Correctional.”
