Except, the room is sterile and barren. There is a cupboard across from the counters, but it’s locked. My hands were tied too tight to be able to pick the lock even if I had what I needed.

I’m trapped and at the mercy of a man who kills people for a living.

“Good going, Hazel.”

Groaning, I squeeze my eyes shut and tilt my head back against the wall. Though the light is gone, the headache still makes my pulse pound. Each inhale makes it worse.

The dull ache is going to drive me insane.

Just when I start to get comfortable—hoping to conserve as much energy as possible—the door creaks open. Heavy footsteps cross the floor, but I keep my eyes shut.

These assholes need to think that I’m as unbothered as possible.

“Wake up or I’ll dump water on you again.”

I open my eyes slowly, glaring at the man above me. Though my clothing is starting to dry, the white shirt still clings to me in a way I don’t appreciate. The man does though. His gaze drops to my breasts.

The sneer he gives me makes any response I could give him die on my tongue. Sweat beads on the back of my neck. A slight tremble courses through my body as he takes his time crouching down.

I don’t want to be alone with this man.

The moment the gag is pulled from my mouth, I bite back a scream.

There isn’t anyone to scream for.

“The boss wants to see you.” He wraps his hand around my bicep and hauls me to my feet. “I think he should kill you. He probably will. You should hope that it’s a quick death, that’s more than you deserve.”

His fingers dig into my arm as another man enters the room. The second man bends down and cuts the restraints away from my ankles. Though I recognize one man from before, the other one is new.

How many people are going to be witness to whatever is about to happen?

Why does the boss want to see me?

If he’s having me taken out of this room, is he still going to kill me?

As they drag me out of the room, my heart races. The door opens into another main room with several other doors lining the walls. The men take me over to one of them and shove it open.

There is a massive desk in one corner and a chestnut leather couch in the other. Nik is reclining on the couch, his long legs stretched in front of him, and one arm draped along the back. His large frame takes up most of the space and he looks completely at ease.

A lazy grin spreads across his face, wrinkles creasing the scruff along his jaw. The corners of his eyes crinkle as I’m pushed into the room, my hands still bound behind me.

“Hazel, take a seat.” He nods to the seat beside him.

It’s a small sliver of space. The men grab me by my arm and drag me across the floor. They shove me onto the couch beside him. He looks triumphant as the men stand in front of me, their arms crossed over their broad chests The second I sit down; the scent of his masculinity is invading my personal space again. Having Nik that close is going to make it hard to concentrate.

I’m trapped.

Nik’s arm shifts from the back of the couch to my shoulders. Warmth radiates from his body where it presses against mine.

Even though I try to pretend that he doesn’t terrify me, the truth is that every inch of my body is tense, screaming at me to run far and fast.

This is a dangerous game to be playing. He is a savage and ruthless man. He’s the kind of man who would kill me, even though I’m an undercover agent, without a second thought.

Right now, I’m helpless and he could easily take advantage of that if he wanted to. With the men standing in front of me, there is nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide.

“Don’t be so tense, malyshka. This is going to be a walk in the park.” Nik chuckles and slides his fingers beneath the collar of my jacket and shirt.

Sparks ignite from the soft touch. I flinch away from him as he presses his thick thigh against mine.
