“I made it out to Warner’s Pass, and…”

“Jett, baby, please,” he said, and I could only hope that Chasin didn’t end up spending the rest of his life in prison after this.

“A car pulled up, and I stopped because I thought that it was you,” I continued. “But when I turned around, it was West Oliver, David Terrell, Reynaldo Ramos, Bridgette Potter, and Archie Peyton getting out of West’s car.” I let out another deep breath. “Bridgette started telling me to stay away from you, accusing me of stealing you from Sierra. It was stupid mean-girl stuff, but we started fighting when she swung at me.”

“What else?”

“I started winning, so that’s when…West jumped in, pulling me off Bridgett,” I said, hating that I had this story to tell. “Then he…he said that if I can fuck you, then I can fuck all of them. He started tearing at my clothes, and Reynaldo and Archie held my arms down while Bridgette covered my mouth.”

“And David?”

“David was yelling at them to stop,” I answered. “He said that he hadn’t signed up to rape me. It was just supposed to be a fight between me and Bridgette on behalf of Sierra.”

“Did they rape you, Jett?” He looked like he wanted to throw up asking that question.

I shook my head. “Not that I know of,” I told him. “David started up the car to leave them there, and that’s what made them stop. They must have run after David, but someone kicked me in the head, making me black out before I could see what they were doing or going. My guess is that David called the police, because I really can’t imagine who else would.”

“Why did you refuse the rape kit?”

“Because I knew that they’d find you inside me, and I didn’t want to put you through that.”

He looked like he was about to drop to his knees. “You didn’t want to put me through that?” he echoed.

I nodded. “I also…I thought that you should hear it from me,” I added. “I didn’t want you hearing any of this from someone else.”

“I’m going to be completely honest with you, Jett,” he said. “Right now, you’re the only thing that’s keeping me from setting this entire city on fire.” My eyes started to water because I believed him. “So, after the doctor releases you, you’re going home with me, and you’re staying with me until I can let you out of my sight again without going crazy.”

“Chasin-”

“You’re mine, Jett,” he said. “You’re mine, and I will never let you down again.”

“You didn’t let me down the first time,” I pointed out.

“Yeah, I did,” he argued. “But I’ll deal with that another time. Right now, you’re going to tell me that you love me, and you’re going to believe me when I tell you that I love you. You’re going to believe me when I tell you that I’ve loved you since you refused to be my friend in kindergarten.” He looked like he was carving out his own heart and handing it to me. “I have always loved you, and I will always love you, Jett. There’s only us, and I will destroy anyone that ever tries to ruin that.”

“It’s my word against everyone else’s,” I reminded him.

“Someone called the police,” he countered. “The police will have a record of that.”

“What are you going to do?” I asked, though I already had an idea.

“What I do best, baby,” he answered before kissing me on my forehead.

Chapter 25

Chasin~

Three hours later, I had Jett secured safely in my bed, a visit to her parents planned for later. I knew that they’d start panicking soon, but with Officers Montgomery and Tisdale on my side, I wasn’t too worried about it. Knowing what I knew now, I doubted that Mr. Morgan would even call the cops, protecting his little secret at all costs.

After Jett had told me everything, I had let the officers into her room, biting my tongue as she repeated what had happened to her after school. As soon as she had finished, she’d gone on to explain her old injuries, surprising me a bit. It hadn’t been necessary to tell the cops about her father, but she’d had, making me wonder if she was considering pressing charges for this latest beating. However, I didn’t ask because she’d been through enough already.

We’d gotten something quick to eat on the way to my house, and when we’d gotten here, I had run her a bath, kept her phone off, then had put her to bed. Right now, she was sleeping in nothing but one of my t-shirts, and I wanted to keep her in my bed forever. I wanted her protected, and I wanted to be the one to keep her safe and make up for the shit job that I’d done so far.

I had also called my father before allowing Officers Tisdale and Montgomery into Jett’s room. Luckily for me, he’d been in New York, the flight home a quick and easy one. Considering that I never called him or my mother for anything, when I had demanded that he come home, he had immediately agreed, something that I was always going to owe him for.

“Chasin, where are you?” I heard him call out, thankful that Jett was sleeping.

I called out from the kitchen. “I’m here.”
