“So this is the plan?” Lord Trechting asked. “We just go to the wedding and tell the truth?”

“Sounds so simple,” Lady Macill said.

“Not so simple,” I replied. “We’re gonna have to station our soldiers close to the castle in case things go wrong. They’ll be in hiding and will come out only if they’re needed.”

Lord Tynan breathed out of his nose. When I stared at him, I realized it was a silent chuckle.

When I met his gaze questioningly, he shrugged.

“I was thinking you might need another test regarding your valiant idealism,” he said. “It appears I underestimated you again. I won’t do it another time.”

Chapter 35: Jasmine

The leaves above my head moved with the wind, the light seeping through the little openings as the bristling sound reached me. I closed my eyes again, but I was caught awake.

“She’s waking up,” Brigid said. She was speaking to someone, someone that was close by both with their body and mind. I knew him.

Was he the one who had hurt me?

“Jasmine,” his voice was deep. “Can you get up?”

“I can,” I lied. “Will it stop?”

Although my eyes were closed, I could almost see them exchanging worried looks with each other. I remembered Muir now. I remembered where we were and where we were going.

I just didn’t remember where I’d been a moment ago.

“Will what stop?” Brigid asked. “Are you okay?”

“I don’t think so,” I told them. “How long has it been?”

“Just a few hours,” Brigid said. “You passed out.”

She somehow knew what I did not. The memories came slowly.

I remembered walking in the forest with the monster folk following behind.

I remembered falling and being caught.

Then, I remembered the dungeon.
