“HELP! ZAIN, HELP ME!” Sara’s screams fill my ears, but I can’t reach her. All I can do is pound on the invisible barrier between us and shout her name into the void.

“No, no, no, let me go,” she screams and claws at their faces, but nothing stops their assault.

Faceless men grope at her body, while others tear at her clothes, ripping them from her thin frame until she’s lying naked in the middle of a barren room.

Nononono! What the fuck is this? God, help me!

“Get the fuck off her!” I shout as I hammer my fists against the barrier. Every attempt I make at breaking the wall between us, fails.

“ZAIN!” Sara’s screams are muffled when someone covers her mouth with his hand and lifts her small body into his arms.

I slam my fists into the barrier. Blood oozes from my knuckles and my bones crack with each punch.

Her eyes, wide in terror, stare into mine. “Please,” she whispers as though she’s right beside me. “Please, Zain, make them stop.”

The men laugh as they rape her. Blood flows down her thighs, and dribbles from her nose and mouth. Her bloodshot eyes never leave mine as she begs me, continuously, to save her.

I step back a few paces, ready myself, then run at the impenetrable barrier. My body bounces off it, and when I look down, I’m covered in blood.

Sara lies at my feet. A crumpled, broken mass of skin and bone.

When I raise my hands, they’re covered in blood.

Sara’s blood is on my hands.

But when I shift my focus to Sara’s lifeless body, she’s gone.

In her place is my Isa.

Battered.

Bruised.

Dead.

“NO!” I scream until my throat is raw.

“Zain, stop!”

I wake with a start, lashing out at the hands that hold me down. There’s a grunt, then a cry.

“Sara’s not here, Zain.” There’s that voice again.

I fight my way through the remnants of what must have been a nightmare. A thick fog envelops me, but as it clears, so does my vision.

When my eyes finally focus, I’m looking up at Isadora.

“Hi.” She whispers, cute as fuck.

Squinting, I shake my head. “You—you were…” I shake my head harder this time.

“You had another nightmare,” she says.

Fuck. Panicking, I pat Isadora down, searching for injuries.

“You didn’t hurt me, but… it was worse than the last one. You were screaming… calling for Sara.” Isa drops onto the bed. She reaches over to the nightstand and grabs a bottle of water before handing it to me. “You okay?” she asks.

After swallowing down half the bottle, I sit and crack my neck. My muscles are tense, aching. I stand and pace the room, scrubbing my hands over my face and scratching at the stubble on my jaw. “I’m going to kill them.” My words are calm, even to my own ears. “I’m going to kill every last one of them.”
