Birdie Longfellow was supposed to be a bargaining chip.

Promised to a dangerous man in exchange for her father’s loyalty to a powerful criminal organization, Birdie fled before the wedding and vanished into the one place no human man would dare follow—the Forbidden Forest bordering Blackthorn Bay.

Hidden among witches, nymphs, and ancient magic, she’s finally safe.
Until Alaric Grimhaven finds her.
Elegant. Deadly. Impossible to escape.

As Blackthorn Bay’s most sought-after private investigator, the ancient vampire has built his reputation on one thing—he always gets results. When wealthy businessman Leland Brooks hires him to track down his missing fiancée, Alaric expects another routine assignment.

Then he meets Birdie.
One look at the beautiful runaway hiding beneath the forest canopy and his instincts shift from hunter… to predator.

But not for her.
For anyone who tries to take her away.

The longer Alaric stays in the Forbidden Forest, the more dangerous his obsession becomes. Birdie is everything he never expected—soft where he is cold, bright where he is dark, innocent enough to believe she can still outrun monsters.

She’s wrong.
Because the most dangerous monster in Blackthorn Bay has already decided she belongs to him.
And when the men hunting her finally come calling, Alaric makes a choice that will change both of their lives forever.

After all, disposing of bodies is easy.
Letting Birdie go?
Impossible.
