Everyone in Chicago calls him Heartless Harris. Nobody has ever needed a reason.

I’m the assistant who runs his schedule, cooks his dinners, and lives in the studio above his garage. Six months of that, and I could tell you exactly how long Austin Harris will hold a door without once looking at me.
Then the Chaos put the captaincy up for grabs, and his agent decided the only thing standing between Austin and the job was a girlfriend. His agent also decided that girlfriend should be me.

Fake, obviously. Public, photographed, and over by the end of the season.
I said no. Twice.

There are two reasons for that. I stammer when I’m frightened, and a relationship on camera means a camera pointed at my face. And I’ve spent my whole life being useful to men because of my last name. I wasn’t going to be useful for a headline too.

So when Austin asked again, I wrote ten rules of my own, handed them over, and waited for him to argue.
He agreed to all ten before he had read a single one.

Nobody warns you about the coldest man in the league. That he notices everything. That he puts himself between you and the room. That the moment he decides you matter, he is the one who falls, and he falls like a man who has never done it before and has no intention of surviving it.

I wrote those rules to keep myself safe.
I’m the one who keeps wanting to break them.
