More Than This Land
He built walls to protect his family’s ranch. She built hers to protect her heart.
I saved 4C Ranch.
At least, that’s what the numbers say.
After my dad’s heart attack, I stepped in and did what had to be done. I cut expenses, streamlined operations, and eliminated anything that wasn’t pulling its weight.
And it worked.
The ranch is profitable again.
Then Claire Whitlock walks into my office.
She’s a CPA with an infuriating habit of looking beyond the numbers, and my dad has asked her to figure out what I’ve done wrong.
According to Claire, I’ve saved the ranch while slowly cutting away everything my grandfather built it to be. The 4H programs. The community partnerships. Helping neighbors when times get hard.
She says a ranch can be financially strong and still have a heart.
I say generosity doesn’t pay the mortgage.
But the more time I spend with Claire, the harder it becomes to prove her wrong.
Somewhere between spreadsheets, stubborn arguments, Sunday dinners, and a community that refuses to give up on me, I’m beginning to realize I may have spent so much time trying to save this ranch that I forgot why it was worth saving.
And Claire?
She’s becoming one more thing I can’t put a price on.
But Claire has walls of her own, and just when I’m ready to risk my carefully controlled life for her, she may be leaving Covenant Creek behind.
I thought saving the ranch meant holding on tighter. Claire is teaching me that sometimes faith means opening your hands and trusting God with what matters most.
More Than This Land is a clean, heartwarming Christian cowboy romance about faith, family, community, and discovering that the things worth loving are worth the risk.
