Lena Anderson has a secret identity. By day, she’s an accountant. By night, she runs a 14K-follower fan account devoted to a drummer she’s never met. Her best friends don’t know her stepsister is in the band. Her family doesn’t know she’s queer.

Rhonda Mars is the Belladonna’s bassist and the only person keeping the band from imploding, she wears one in public to dodge the tabloids chewing through her bandmates’ personal lives. She books the studios, manages the scandals, fields the label calls, and pretends she doesn’t notice that her co-leader checked out the day she fell in love.

They meet hostile at a gig—Rhonda’s elbow, Lena’s limited-edition mask, spilled soda, and an argument. Twelve hours later, they’re on the same overbooked flight, seated together, and bonding over a reclining-seat disaster that’s nobody’s fault and everybody’s problem.

One year of texts turns strangers into the person you call in the middle of the night when you can’t sleep. Then Rhonda’s band plays Lena’s city and a year of messages collapses into a room. The banter is the same. The electricity is new. And when Rhonda asks to keep them a secret, Lena says yes before she’s finished thinking.

But being private and being invisible are not the same thing. Lena’s best friends are getting suspicious. Her stepsister keeps asking who she’s texting. And the longer the secret holds, the harder it gets to tell the difference between protecting a relationship and hiding one.
