HE WANTED DEVOTION. SHE GAVE HIM MADNESS.

The Joker and Harley Quinn retelling you’ve been screaming for. They told me the white walls were for my protection. They said the leather straps were to keep me from hurting myself, and the heavy doses of chemicals were to keep the “voices” at bay. But there are no voices. There is only the silence—a cold, hollow ringing in my ears that reminds me I’m rotting in a cage while the world forgets I ever existed.
I was a good girl once. I had a name, a life, and a mind that didn’t itch for the sight of blood.

Then the walls screamed.

I didn’t know the man who walked through the fire and the blood to get to me. I didn’t know his name was Jex, or that his grin was a jagged promise of the end of the world. I didn’t know he was the ghost the city whispered about—the one who leaves charred playing cards on the cooling chests of his victims.

I had never seen his face until he was leaning into my personal space, smelling of gunpowder and boyish sin, telling me I was his.

He didn’t come to the asylum to save me. He came to claim the only thing in this city as unhinged as he is. The doctors think they can cure me. Jex knows I’m not sick—I’m just finally awake. He’s the match, I’m the gasoline, and together we’re going to burn the world to the fucking ground.
