Blake Seibert has a reputation among the Seven of Armstrong Protection Services as the aggravating, exasperating smartass of the crew, someone whom her best friends on the management team with her are tempted to throttle on a daily basis. Despite her sometimes frustrating personality, however, Blake is also a skilled mariner as well as the creator and head of Utopia at APS—a lab simulator that generates realistic combat situations with full-size virtual armed enemies, allowing associates to practice weapons-based combat in a first-person perspective.

Even smartasses can be deadly.

Brooke Marino is one of the top graphic artists in the craft microbrewery space in Florida, whose talent brings her and Brooke Marino Designs more business than she can handle. Accepting a rebranding contract to help out a local brewery owner who had neglected his business for a time while his now-recovered wife battled breast cancer, Brooke is angered when she learns the four partners the owner has taken on have been using his inattention to embezzle from the brewery,
planning to strip it for parts before disappearing into the night.

Not on Brooke’s watch, they aren’t. Family is everything to a Marino, and Brooke will be damned if these sleazy bastards are going to ruin a man because he has made the health of his wife his number one priority.

When Blake finds out Brooke has been planning to take down the embezzlers by herself, she goes ballistic, threatening to turn the fiery femme over her knee for putting herself in danger. With no fear, Brooke pushes back, yelling that her situation has nothing to do with the protection and security business, so the management team of APS needs to stay in their lane. But it will be over Blake’s dead body that the woman she has been fascinated with since grade school is going to go it alone without the butch who has every intention of taking her as her own at her back.

The plot thickens when Infinity Security—a femme-owned protection and security company out of Tallahassee—shows up, telling APS one of the four embezzlers is potentially tied to a substantial (and dangerous) body brokering case they have been hired to look into. When bullets ring out one night, leaving the grifter dead, Brooke and Blake must work to protect themselves and the others from the remaining thieves who are bent on exacting retribution, and who plan to make every single one of them pay for ruining their partnership.

And they will not stop—until both APS and Infinity Security are no more.
