He broke my heart back in junior high. Now I’m paid to get the scoop on him.

Back when I was an awkward, brace-faced middle schooler, I worked up the courage to ask Seth Cox to a dance.
He said yes.
Then he stood me up.
In a perfect world, Seth would’ve peaked in junior high and lived out his days begging for my forgiveness.
But as it turns out, life has a twisted sense of humor.
Because Seth Cox is now Axel Cox—chart-topping country music sensation, certified heartbreaker, and a walking reminder that life is utterly unfair.
Someone has to knock the bigshot down a peg or two, and lucky for me, I’m perfectly positioned to do just that. I write for an exclusive online magazine under the pen name Jovie Chord where the music scene is my specialty.
Axel just happens to be my favorite topic.
Oh, the things I’ve written about that smug playboy. And yes—he’s earned every word.
When Axel abruptly splits from his band and the world wants to know why, my editor pulls a few strings and lands me the assignment of a lifetime.
The catch?
I have to go undercover—posing as an interior designer’s assistant—to decorate for a lavish party at Axel’s house, hosted by his diva girlfriend.
Poetic justice. Axel doesn’t even recognize me. That’s how inconsequential I was to him back then.
They say revenge is a dish best served cold, but I had no idea Axel would be … well … so hot. Or charming. Or funny. Or devastatingly attractive in that dangerous, slow-smile way that’s poking some very inconvenient holes in my perfectly justified grudge.
Turns out, the biggest story might not be the one I’m writing.
But the one I’ve fallen into.
