I met my best friend Danny in fifth grade and we had an instant connection. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for him, including protecting him from bullies, and taking him to prom when he had no one else to go with as a gay kid. I’m living my dreams of a great career, a nice apartment in Chicago, and great friends. But one night it all comes to an end at the hands of bigots. When I wake up in the hospital, I can’t even do basic things like eat or walk on my own. But at my side is the best friend, my greatest love, who I’d left behind in our small hometown. He’s always had my back, and as things begin to turn around, an old spark—one I thought was one-sided—reignites.
